"...its users uploaded between 2003 and 2015." That's the lede of a new article I just stumbled across. I'm not on Myspace, but if I were, I'd be horrified at a loss like that. The disintegrating internet feels a bit like the Alexandria library fire all over again. Which reminds me: it would be wonderful if the old TORN forum content from 1999-2007 could be restored. I once said in "The Year's Work in Tolkien Studies" that the best writing on Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies was to be found online. I was thinking of TORN. I feel even more strongly about the historic Reading Room posts. So I post this to re-up my commitment to contribute in any way I can to the restoration.
Treachery, treachery I fear; treachery of that miserable creature. But so it must be. Let us remember that a traitor may betray himself and do good that he does not intend. -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Discuss Tolkien's life and works in the Reading Room! +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= How to find old Reading Room discussions.

Happiness: money matters, but less than we think and not in the way that we think. Family is important and so are friends, while envy is toxic -- and so is excessive thinking. Beaches are optional. Trust is not. Neither is gratitude. - The Geography of Bliss by Eric Weiner as summarized by Lily Fairbairn. And a bit of the Hobbit reading thrown in never hurts. - NottaSackville
