Bakshi's LOTR film Can't Post

I've just seen it again, first time since 1979 iirc, and it's so bad it's good.
One thing that really pulled me up was how some scenes were but imperfectly "animated" from the live action shooting. Which leads me to wonder, what is the chance that somewhere, in some dark corner of the cinematic world, there may be the originals of the film's live-action pre-animation shooting?
Would anyone have any idea? At least, of who to ask/pester?
