If this becomes an Amazon Prime thing and low tech guys like me don't do all that kind of stuff would I have to wait a year later for the entire season to come out on DVD? I also don't have HBO so I guess I'd be in the same boat there.

Woops, sorry. I'm still learning the ropes. From what I understand I am supposed to reply to the original post in a case like that. Am I correct in assuming that if I want to reply to a thread, my response has to be attached to a previous post somehow? That means that if I am still on the subject matter but drift off of it a bit I may find it difficult to attach my post to anything. Would the person who posted the OP wonder about my response in the same manner you did? I hate to go around starting new threads just for a single question and this thread was the closest to the question I had. I apologize for my ignorance in technology but was wondering how the new series would be broadcast and if I would have access to it.

Which is a good thing. We don't want another The Hobbit trilogy. I'd take another Hobbit trilogy. They're fun films, just edited poorly and too reliant on CGI is all. As far as prequels go, they're way better than the ones we got for Star Wars and Harry Potter. Holding the TV show to the LotR trilogy standard will only set people up for disappointment. Holding to a standard even higher than that will damage the brand.

Holding the TV show to the LotR trilogy standard will only set people up for disappointment. Holding to a standard even higher than that will damage the brand.
I agree. The films were enjoyable and breathtaking in certain parts. Sure, some parts did not succeed like the visual of the Great Goblin or the stupidity of Radagast, but there were moments of greatness like Dol Guldur and the Battle of the Five Armies (EE of course) and the interior shots of Erebor.
While I would rate the LOTR films a collective 9.5 - I would give the HOBBIT films a collective 7.5. Still good and still worth watching.

Absolutely. We were spoiled, thankfully, by the LotR movies. Recapturing that magic would be almost impossible. The Hobbit trilogy is more reasonable and would still be well worth watching. Especially if the same set pieces can be used and we get cameos from the movies.
