William Goldman has died, but The Princess Bride lives on. Can't Post

Thank you to Mr. Goldman for writing it (and Butch and Sundance, of course).
Thank you to my friend for my birthday present of the book when it came out which "You absolutely have to read" and which I still have.
Thank you again, Mr Goldman, for the funniest, sweetest, cleverest, most unlikely fantasy adventure film that hit all the right notes of love and honour and friendship and silliness for this fan.
"Only" entertainment, but perfect.

Well [In reply to] Can't Post

I feel like a schmuck: I never knew of his work beyond The Princess Bride. What a loss to those who love to lose themselves in stories - but like Stan Lee, he's left behind a marvellous legacy.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

"Follow the money". "Nobody knows anything." [In reply to] Can't Post

It was Goldman for the film version of All the President's men, not Bob Woodward or Carl Bernstein in their book upon which the film was based, who coined the first phrase to describe the process of tying the Watergate break-in and subsequent cover-up back to its source.

It was Goldman who coined the second phrase to describe how Hollywood moguls decided which movies to greenlight.

RIP.

Saw that on a social media tribute to Goldman. Is the translation accurate?

Such sad news... [In reply to] Can't Post

My eldest daughter (48yo) has LOVED LOVED LOVED The Princess Bride forever. I just got her a t-shirt for her b'day with a Princess Bride definition for "inconceivable". She could recite the whole film.

What a gift he's given us. I pray he rests in peace.

Inconceivable! [In reply to] Can't Post

I was sure that Goldman had cut a deal with Miracle Max that would allow him to live for many more years.
