Peter Jackson talking about "They Shall Not Grow Old" Can't Post

An interview with Peter Jackson about his new film. I really enjoyed this.

(The following item, about three teenage boys who went to the war, is also very good.)

Do we find happiness so often that we should turn it off the box when it happens to sit there?

Today was such a poignant day [In reply to] Can't Post

I watched the solemn yet lovely National Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial, and it was also moving to hear the local school band playing outside my house just after 11 am.

It was also rather moving to read about Tolkien and his TCBS comrades in Tolkien: Maker of Middle-earth. I managed to find (make!) the time to read those chapters today.

And yes, this interview makes me want to watch PJs film even more. Thanks for sharing Smile

I can't wait to see this film! [In reply to] Can't Post

I'll definitely make time for that. Where I am, we don't have any ceremonies I can attend or anything like that, except a military fly-over at 11 o'-clock. It's very humbling to remember how incredibly grateful I should be; if my great-grandfather had never come back from that war, I would not be alive today. And of course, if Tolkien had died there, I would not be the man I am anyway. Thank you, to all those who served, who gave their lives to defend my country and many others. I am eternally grateful to you, and I will not let your memory perish.

"Torment in the dark was the danger that I feared, and it did not hold me back. But I would not have come, had I known the danger of light and joy. Now I have taken my worst wound in this parting, even if I were to go this night straight to the Dark Lord."

I've seen it [In reply to] Can't Post

and it is very impressive, the way it's been done. It does not skate over the harsh realities of trench warfare though, so if you're squeamish about injuries and blood or prone to having nightmares, some of the images in it might be a bit much. You might want to avoid watching it while you're eating, too...!

BBC Four did a excellent little making of piece [In reply to] Can't Post

Very interesting - how they did the colourisation based on PJ's collection of WWI stuff, and the editing process. The film itself is a masterpiece.
