This one's come as a bolt from the blue! Throughout this year Rhino Records has been releasing limited editions of the Complete Recordings of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King on coloured vinyl.
And to wrap things up, they've just announced that the original motion picture soundtracks (the 2001, 2002, and 2003 OSTs that accompanied the theatrical releases of the films) will be available as part of a Limited-Edition 6-LP Trilogy Boxed Set from November 30, 2018.
No details yet on the edition limit, but for the record, the FOTR vinyl set was limited to 5,000 while those for TTT and ROTK were limited to 8,000 each.

LOS ANGELES - The Lord of the Rings trilogy remains one of most successful films in cinematic history. Based on the popular J.R.R. Tolkien novel of the same name, The Lord of the Rings was directed by Peter Jackson and features a score composed by Howard Shore. The trilogy earned a total of 17 Academy Awards®, including three for music. Beyond critical acclaim, the music from the films also enjoyed wide commercial success, collectively selling over 7 million albums.
Following the recent deluxe sets that featured The Complete Recording from each film, Rhino will introduce a limited-edition set that includes the original soundtracks to all three films. THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE MOTION PICTURE TRILOGY SOUNDTRACK will be released on November 30 as a 6-LP boxed set ($134.98). The 180-gram limited edition LPs will be housed in a collector's box that has a leather-style spine.
The music for all three films was composed, orchestrated and conducted by Howard Shore. His music was performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, with contributions from two choirs: London Voices and London Oratory School Schola.
The Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack was certified platinum in the U.S. alone, and sold extremely well around the world. It won the Academy Award® for Best Original Score, as well as the Grammy® for Best Score Soundtrack Album. It includes two original songs written and performed by Enya: "May It Be" and "Anaron (Theme for Aragorn and Arwen)."
The Two Towers soundtrack was certified gold in the U.S., the U.K. and Canada and won the Grammy Award® for Best Score Soundtrack Album.
The Return of the King soundtrack was certified gold in the U.S. and the U.K. and won two Academy Awards® for Best Original Score and for Best Original Song with "Into the West" performed by Annie Lennox; two Golden Globe Awards® for Best Original Score and Song; and two Grammy Awards® for Best Score Soundtrack Album and Song Written for a Motion Picture.
There's probably never been as ambitious a film score as Howard Shore's 10-hour epic for the "Lord of the Rings" series... the music is rich and complex, drawing on a vast range of styles and exotic instruments to evoke J.R.R. Tolkien's world... Shore uses an elaborate leitmotif technique (where musical themes are associated with specific characters or ideas, and are developed across the entire series) to hold the sprawling tale together. is it true that the audio quality of vinyls is better than CDs and that is why people like them?
Or is it more nostalgia?
I grew up using tapes / CDs only, so I don't know ^^°

There is certainly debate. I've heard pretty solid arguments about the range and depth that vinyl can have compared to digital, but I've also heard that digital carries more information than vinyl and is therefore better.
What it really comes down to, is the sound setup you have. 99% of people can argue about vinyl vs digital all day but probably don't have a setup that actually makes a difference (or makes one vs the other worthwhile)...which would be a very expensive setup.
Chances are you will never really be able to answer the question on which is better unless you have a really solid setup.
I think the vinyl craze is more about nostalgia, the feeling that it conveys, the warmth. It certainly sounds different, but I don't think it's fair to say it's better unless you've invested a lot of time and money into a real setup.

Is that a lot of classic vinyl albums (like many by the Beatles) were initially released on CD in compressed digital versions that really did lose a lot of sound quality even on lesser systems.
Treachery, treachery I fear; treachery of that miserable creature.
But so it must be. Let us remember that a traitor may betray himself and do good that he does not intend.
