I had originally put together this little quiz to celebrate of Gandalf’s escape from Isengard (Sept. 18). But with a little nudge and a gentle reminder from grammaboodawg I decided to postpone and join the celebration of Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday.
Here are twenty exact book quotes from The Lord of the Rings, that hint at or describe a place, thing, or object.
How many can you get?
Answers/scores in a few days. Good luck! 
1. Slender they looked, but strong, silken to the touch, grey of hue like the elven-cloaks.
2. It was a purely Bywater joke to refer to it as Sharkey’s End.
3. At the beginning there were many leaves covered with Bilbo’s thin wandering hand; but most of it was written in Frodo’s firm flowing script.
4. ‘It comes down out of the Downs and flows south-west through the midst of the Forest to join the Brandywine below Haysend.’
5. Out of it came a stench, not the sickly odor of decay in the meads of Morgul, but a foul reek, as if filth unnamable were piled and hoarded in the dark within.

19. Then slowly on the surface, where the wizard/s hands had passed, faint lines appeared, like slender veins of silver running in the stone.
20. ‘… and in the midst, set upon a green terrace, there stands a loft a great hall of Men. And it seems to my eyes that it is thatched with gold.’
