Question about the timeline in Beren and Lúthien.

I am reading through the Silmarillion for the second time now. I'm at the chapter about Beren and Lúthien and I noticed something about the timeline that doesn't seem to add up, and I felt to ask here if anyone can give an explanation to this or if there is something I'm missing. To me, the time from Beren leaves Doriath the first time until he is captured by Saurion with Finrod in Tol Sirion seem to be like a few days or a couple of weeks at most. While Lúthien is imprisoned i Doriath and grows out her hair seems to take more than a couple of weeks. Is it something I'm missing or is there some other explanation to how this works?

I'm moving your excellent question to the Reading Room

as you can see, we've been partying like a Baggins in honor of Bilbo and Frodo, so your question might have been overlooked on Main.

I'll link to your previous thread here and lock this one so that the discussion remains in a single thread. :) http://newboards.theonering.net/...;;page=unread#unread
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.
