Newly de-lurked

Hi, everyone. I have been lurking on TORn since before the movies came out. I did a search for Tolkien and came across TORn. My wife is Alcarcalime and she finally convinced me to sign up on the new boards. I am an electrical engineer with a job title of industrial engineer, but I actually do computer programming. I read the books in the early '70s when someone at work loaned them to me. I rushed out and bought my own set. I have been reading them at least once a year ever since.

Yay! glad you de-lurked. This is going to be fun.
Each cloak was fastened about the neck with a brooch like a green leaf veined with silver. `Are these magic cloaks?' asked Pippin, looking at them with wonder. `I do not know what you mean by that,' answered the leader of the Elves. NARF since 1974. Balin Bows

Nice to see you de-lurking. So Alcarcalime didn't tell you too many scary stories about us then? *mwahahahaha* ;)
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. Hi all I've been a regular chatter in the torn chatroom for some time now, and thought i would give these new boards a try, they certainly look fantastic and i hope they become a big sucess. I admitidly am not much of a forum user, but i do enjoy browsing and occasionally posting, and of course am a big Tolkien fan. I first came across the movies when i saw an article in a film magazine on the shoot and from then on there my interest grew and grew until the movies swept me up and my interest in the books took hold. Pretty soon i had read the trilogy and The Hobbit, loving both, and i now have The Silmarillion awaiting my reading attention, although i approach that somewhat timidly as it does seem to be quite an intimidating piece of work lol. Its good to see other regular chatters as well on the boards, and i look forward to discussing many more things about Tolkiens wonderful world as the boards expand and grow, and hopefully get to know a lot of the regular forum users ttfn.

It's nice to see a chatter here. I've only been to the chat room a few times, partly because I don't know many people there. Isn't that silly? Anyway, I hope you like it here on the boards. Good luck with The Silmarillion. My first time, I only got through by skimming heavily. Since being involved in the Reading Room, I've been more diligent about studying the maps and family trees. The thing that really has made me love The Sil, though, is the Nasmith-illustrated edition I got for Christmas last year. It's beautiful!
Where's Frodo?

Since he is the one that insisted that I sign up on the old boards, I don't think I could tell him any scary stories that he doesn't know already.
