Has anyone tried gaming Bard and the Elvenking trying to storm Erebor? Can't Post

In the Reading Room, we're working through The Hobbit. We are discussing 'The Gathering Of The Clouds' in which Thorin has walled himself in Erebor, and an allied army of men and elves is outside. There has been some discussion of Bard's military options - why doesn't he storm the place instead of trying to starve Thorin out?

Our discussion is here http://newboards.theonering.net/...i?post=948588#948588 and you're welcome to join in. But I had a gaming question specifically - has anyone tried wargaming this (e.g. with tabletop miniatures)? If so, how did it go?

Where's that old read-through discussion?
A wonderful list of links to previous chapters in the 2014-2016 LOTR read-through (and to previous read-throughs) is curated by our very own 'squire' here http://users.bestweb.net/...-SixthDiscussion.htm
