sad news... the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, has passed away Can't Post

At the age of 76 and following her battle with cancer, Aretha Franklin passed away in her home this morning. I remember hearing her on the radio at a very young age where I grew up near Detroit... and she was a powerhouse! After 60 years of entertainment, she will be sorely missed. A beautiful soul, generous, eccentric, magical... rest in peace.

My favorite performance... [In reply to] Can't Post

was at the Kennedy Center Honors when Aretha Franklin sang Natural Woman for Carole King. It hit me how important that relationship and that respect must be between performer and songwriter. What a performance that was! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHsnZT7Z2yQ

Pure power and soulful beauty. She took everyone to church in this performance. I'm so SO happy she had this incredible moment for herself... knowing now what was to come. She gave and received so much love. *tearing*

She did! You can't help but close your eyes and just ride that powerful wave. I really liked what President Obama said in his statement.

And watching Carole King do her best fangirl is so incredible. You could tell how honored that not only was Aretha Franklin singing her song at the Gala, she was also playing it. She truly admired and was grateful for the singers who sang her songs. It made me tear up just like the President did. In my next life I will be incredibly rich and I will be a sponsor or whatever you call it to musicians and artists and writers. I have minimal talent but oh how I appreciate those who do!
