Middle-Earth conspiracy theories Can't Post

Heres one. What was the real reason for Gandalf's ammonisty to Sauron. I dunno, but he seemed to really hate the lord of Mordor. Of course, that might have been something to do with Sauron's desire to take over the entire world, but it seems to be a bit more to me. Gandalf had something really personal against Sauron. After all the Wizard made it his life's work to oppose Sauron and you can't get much more personal than that!

I don't understand it. There must be a reason that I can't see. [In reply to] Can't Post

Gandalf/Sauron - same old same old. Somebody come up with something sunnier, please.Heart

Everyone comes from
One father one mother (well, maybe they didn't, but anyways...)
So why do we complicate
Our lives so much
By being at war with each other?
Mmm...maybe I'm crazy
But I don't understand it.
Why do we seem to vote
To dig more holes?
It's such a waste of a planet.
There must be a reason
That I can't see.
Maybe somebody else
Knows better than me.
All I know is
Everyone else is
A sister or brother
So we've got to look around
Again and stop
Being at war with each other
Being at war with each other.
Oh. . .
Maybe I'm crazy
But I don't
No, I don't understand it.
(There must be a reason.)
There must be a reason.
(There must be a reason.)
There must be a reason
That I can't see.
Somebody else must be
Better than me.
All I know is
Everyone else is
A sister or brother
So we've got to look around
Again and stop
Being at war with each other
Being at war with each other...

"Naked I was sent back--for a brief time, until my task was done." [In reply to] Can't Post

Was it really his life's work? Or was he just doing the job he was appointed to do, on a time scale that only seems long to us?

Treason doth neuer prosper? What's the Reason?
for if it prosper none dare call it treason.

Wow, Lissuin! Read your posts better, girl! [In reply to] Can't Post

Dear Hamfast,
Allow me to amend the beginning of my earlier post. On returning home several hours later, I find that the first try sounds unintentionally churlish. Shocked This is the sentiment I was attempting to convey:

"Gandalf/Sauron - same old same old; the more things change, the more they stay the same. This Streisand song has been on my mind lately, and it seems to fit the clash of those titans of Middle-earth and the never-ending battles between 'us' and 'other'. I do hope somebody can come up with a sunnier answer for this thread...please!"Heart

etc.
Smile

And Rose drew him in, and set him on the harpsichord bench, and put little Wilhelm Friedemann upon his lap.

He began composing a fugue. 'Well, I'm Bach,' he said.

That time in junior high when Sauron kissed Melian even though he KNEW Gandalf wanted to ask her out // [In reply to] Can't Post

Happiness: money matters, but less than we think and not in the way that we think. Family is important and so are friends, while envy is toxic -- and so is excessive thinking. Beaches are optional. Trust is not. Neither is gratitude. - The Geography of Bliss by Eric Weiner as summarized by Lily Fairbairn. And a bit of the Hobbit reading thrown in never hurts. - NottaSackville

Hell hath no fury like [In reply to] Can't Post

a wizard spurned.
Cue Johnny Cash:
"Ring Of Fire"
(originally by Anita Carter)

Love is a burning thing
And it makes a fiery ring.
Bound by wild desire
I fell into a ring of fire.

I fell into a burning ring of fire,
I went down, down, down and the flames went higher
And it burns, burns, burns,
The ring of fire, the ring of fire.

I fell into a burning ring of fire,
I went down, down, down and the flames went higher
And it burns, burns, burns,
The ring of fire, the ring of fire.

The taste of love is sweet
When hearts like ours meet.
I fell for you like a child,
Oh, but the fire went wild.

I fell into a burning ring of fire,
I went down, down, down and the flames went higher
And it burns, burns, burns,
The ring of fire, the ring of fire.

And it burns, burns, burns,
The ring of fire, the ring of fire.
The ring of fire, the ring of fire.

Patent violations [In reply to] Can't Post

Just as Sauron co-developed the Rings of Power, he co-invented fireworks with Gandalf, but Gandalf unwittingly signed over the intellectual property rights to Sauron, who then licensed fireworks far and wide (even in Valinor), making the fortune he used to fund all his wars.

Gandalf, of course, never got over the professional ruin and his inability to even buy his own home, becoming an eternal house guest, mooching off relatives and the kind-hearted. There's a reason the Blue Wizards don't come into the story and Radagast disappears--they'd had enough of his freeloading and hid from him.

Thank you, G. Hobbit. You got a much cheerier set of lyrics there than I did - fire and burning aside, of course. EvilLaugh
Love that gravelly voice of his. If a Balrog could speak....
