***Starting May 20: The Hobbit An Unexpected Read-through Can't Post

I am organising a read-through of The Hobbit. Each week, there will be a post in the Reading Room starting a discussion of a chapter. We work through the book in order, a chapter a week. Everyone is welcome to join in the discussion - all you need to do is to have access to the book, and a willingness to read, discuss, share and learn. We have done a number of these before (but not since the LOTR read-through that finished in 2016) and they have been both great fun and a good way of learning a lot about the book.

The first discussion about Chapter 1, naturally will appear on 20 May 2018, with further instalments weekly. So grab a copy of The Hobbit and get reading and thinking of things you'd like to discuss!

In some past read-throughs we have set up a formal schedule and got a different volunteer to introduce each chapter. Im not going to do that this time, but if you would particularly like to introduce a certain chapter then you are very welcome just let me know! (A good way to do that would be to go to this thread http://newboards.theonering.net/...i?post=944603#944603 and see what the current schedule is - some chapters are already 'taken'. )

Any introduction will only have space to raise a few of the many possible discussion points, so the whole thing is better if folks reply to the introduction with more questions, ideas and other things to discuss. Therefore, it isn't necessary to be the Introducer to make a useful contribution to the week!

Where's that old read-through discussion?
A wonderful list of links to previous chapters in the 2014-2016 LOTR read-through (and to previous read-throughs) is curated by our very own 'squire' here http://users.bestweb.net/...-SixthDiscussion.htm
