Yes - [In reply to] Can't Post

Very Middle-earthy - and all the more so because he doesn't tie the figures etc to a particular time and place (compare e.g. Caspar David Friedrich whose figures definitely belong, clothes-wise, to his own time). Thank you for the link - I hadn't heard of Knud Baade. But I do know and like Atkinson Grimshaw's work.

Yes, very much so [In reply to] Can't Post

Baade strikes me as the greater artist, but some of Dahl's seem a bit more Middle-earthy to me.

Thank you!

When viewing Dahl I thought of Alan Lee's Silmarillion cover or Ted Naismith [In reply to] Can't Post

and Baade's paintings brought to mind Silmarillion stories. The ships in the storm breaking up made me think of Ar Pharazon's fleet in ruin and the dark mountain scenes with the two characters reminded me of a scene from The Children of Hurin,

I live in the rounded but wooded hills of southcentral Pennsylvania (eastern woodlands, US), and am going

WHAT ARE THOOOOOOOSE?!?!?!?!

The rounded stone hills... not pointy like the Rockies, rounded but rocky and bare. Fascinating.

Ah yes, I see the horse....it looks like it has a warg on its back. [In reply to] Can't Post

I also see what appears to be a rounded tower shape in the background and maybe a "troll arm" sticking up from the waves.

Your mind can see things that aren't there if directed to search for certain forms.....paredoila etc.
