Beren and Lúthien book question Can't Post

I have pre ordered the book in paperback. But can not help but think about how much of the book comes from various sources.

I know a large chunk of children of hurin comes from unfinished tales. But how much of Beren and Lúthien comes from other sources. For example, how much of it comes from lost tales or silmarillion.

The Silmarillion [In reply to] Can't Post

The story of Beren and Lúthien is incidental to Unfinished Tales where PART ONE: THE FIRST AGE is mainly concerned with "Of Tuor and His Coming to Gondolin" and "Narn i Hîn Húrin".

In my 1977 copy of The Silmarillion (Houghton Mifflin), "Of Beren and Lúthien" runs from page 162 to 187; I'm not sure about the word-count.

I imagine that much of the rest was first published within various volumes of The History of Middle-earth. How much of that was outside of The Book of Lost Tales, Part 2 I don't know.

Everything in the book (other than new commentary) was previously published in HoMe [In reply to] Can't Post

All of the material written by Tolkien that appears in the book Beren and Luthien was previously published in the following volumes of The History of Middle-earth: Volume 2 (The Book of Lost Tales, Part II); Volume 3 (The Lays of Beleriand); Volume 4 (The Shaping of Middle-earth); and Volume 5 (The Lost Road and Other Writings). There is more detail in the review that I wrote at the Journal of Tolkien Research, if you are interested. https://scholar.valpo.edu/...esearch/vol4/iss2/5/

Probably [In reply to] Can't Post

The basic story will not change, but you will get more detail. It's nice to have it all in one place instead of picking up bits and pieces through the different volumes.
