Would you want a 16:9 full-screen (no black bars) version?

At the moment The Hobbit is only available in 2.35:1, with black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. But I can't help thinking what a full 16:9 presentation might look like, without the top and bottom cut off.
The thing is, the movie was shot in 2.00:1 (which is very close to your TV's 16:9) for IMAX screens. But because other cinemas are much wider, they cropped the top and bottom off for most of the shots**, so that it could stretch across the screen. (James Cameron did the same for Avatar and says he prefers the full-screen version, because it gives a sense of height in the flying sequences)
I understand most people prefer the wider image because it looks like Lord of the Rings. And it may well be Pete's intended frame, although he's never confirmed that. But looking at TV spots and clips without the cropping I think I'd be interested to see it that way, particularly in 3D. But I don't know if I'd prefer it and I don't know how others feel.
If it were re-released in some future format (4K Blu-ray or something) but in a full 16:9, would you be interested? Or would the lack of black bars put you off? Do you think it would feel less Middle-earthy? Less cinematic? More or less claustrophobic? Or do you not really care?
**The film was actually shot in 5K and then finished and displayed in 2K. This meant they had a lot of room to zoom and crop in the edit. So while most of the footage got a simple top-bottom crop, some close-up shots could be zoomed out to create the extra space. Technically, both versions are cropped, just to different shapes.

Next time The Hobbit is on I'll have to check it out, I have a feeling they just cut the sides off for TV. Not sure how it works, but I doubt they'd have the IMAX versions to broadcast, with the extra picture above and below?
