That new Tolkien book for this summer - could it be this one? Can't Post

As many here have heard, Amazon and other book sales site have begun listing a new book by J. R. R. Tolkien, to be released this August. So far it's untitled but is said by an unofficial site to be 'The Fall of Gondolin.'

Given the sparse and unsatisfactory state of the 'Gondolin' corpus, a few wise commentators have doubted this, pending a press release from the actual publisher. However a few others in the Tolkien fan community have been putting two and two together, and have begun to speculate that this new book may be tied to Christopher Tolkien's recent retirement from heading the Tolkien Estate.

It's possible, the word is, that his departure may have finally freed up for publication "More Tales From Middle Earth", a little-known but quite controversial book from the 1990s. Legend has it that its initial print run was blocked by a court case, with all existing volumes being recalled and pulped. Nevertheless a few people are said to have scanned parts of it during this shameful episode, and crappy but readable images have been tantalizingly circulated off line for decades.

Since it now seems to be going public - or so we may hope - I'll take the liberty of giving the RR a chance to review what little we know of what may - MAY! - be coming this fall. One warning, though: The Scurillion is not family friendly at times, and so I would never post the actual texts on TORn. But if you want to preview a few of the famously infamous and long-blocked pages, here's a link.

Could This Be The Book??? [In reply to] Can't Post

https://www.tolkiensociety.org/2017/03/bodleian-library-to-release-tolkien-book-in-2018/

Tolkien: The Maker of Middle-earth, to be published in the summer of 2018, will be written by Bodleian archivist Catherine McIlwaine and will provide a deeper insight into Tolkien as an author and creator. Known inclusions include never-before seen illustrations by Tolkien, manuscripts of and “letters from admirers including W H Auden, Joni Mitchell and Iris Murdoch”.

Some sources calling it "The Holy Grail" of Tolkien books... [In reply to] Can't Post

Didn't Christopher Tolkien suggest that The Tale of Beren and Lúthien would be his last publication/editing contribution?

Regardless, I am grateful for any publications from this realm and particularly fond of the hidden city.

He wrote in the preface of Beren and Luthien [In reply to] Can't Post

That at his advanced age it was presumptively (Man! Even the spell-check doesn't approve that.) the last of his publications of his fathers unfinished material.

Looks like he found the energy for one more. Or else it was already in preparation and he was just being cautious.
