I don’t think you could find a more adorable, inspirational story this year than of ‘Midgey the Pirate Dog!’ But I have to ask, what does he eat when he can’t get Hobbit? Yip, yip, arrrhhh

A short week at work, yet somehow I feel just as exhausted as I did before winter break. How did that happen? Last night was a quick dinner and movie (Phantom Thread, recommend seeing it). Tonight I have another dinner with a buddy who got an interview with our company next week, which I hope he nails. But, as always, I'm starting off the weekend in bed being as lazy as I possible can for a few hours. For New Year's Eve, I went to a karaoke bar with some friends. The people-watching was quite entertaining! I've resolved to see more movies, read more books, write a screenplay and at least a poem a day in 2018. So far, so good! Happy weekend, everyone!

Both my parents smoked and had AMD and so since I was thirty I have taken AREDS supplements and worn cataract-type sunglasses. (I never smoked.) Although I've had cataract surgery in each eye, at least the AMD is holding off. Thanks for sharing your encouraging experience.

that put me in hospital for 4 days. The cat had come into my house and bit me when I was trying to put it into a carrier. Fortunately Animal Service caught it to observe for rabies for 10 days and released it when it appeared healthy. Wouldn't you know -- the cat has already found its way back to our house! Otherwise Christmas and New Year's were quiet and reflective days of churchgoing and good food. Mr. TX surprised me with the big Falconer book; he had hidden it in his car so I wouldn't guess. For New Year's resolutions I am finishing my parents' estate and celebrating by taking Mr. TX on a trip to England and Scotland this spring. There are also the usual ones about diet and exercise and keeping up with e-mail Merry Day 12th of Christmas, New Year's, and Epiphany or whatever you celebrate to all my TORnsibs!

You two can write, illustrate, and publish it. Once it is a bestseller, we shall remunerate you each not even half as much as you deserve, which is far less than half as much as you would like: Eleventy-one percent of one eleventy eleventh of .1 of -1.5 percent of eleventy percent of pirate loot.

Hey, wait...
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. Glad you are getting better. I remember when my Mum was bitten by a feral cat (also trying to catch it). It made her very sick too.

Fortunately it's not rabid, but what a thing to go through! It's back already? Taking a trip in the Springtime sounds lovely! Are you going with a tour group, or making your own way around?

I'm 8 for 8 so far, in terms of poems. That's an interesting question! I think the long, sometimes tiresome hours make it more difficult to find time to simply sit down and write anything (let alone something creative). On the other hand, this business is crazy in many ways, and there are moments when it all washes over you in some kind of Kafkaesque ooze that gets the creative juices flowing. Probably not a coincidence that a lot of my poetry during the week is surrealist, sometimes nonsensical and/or is done via automatic writing. The hard part can be not knowing what to do with it and lacking the confidence to put it out there into the world.
