Painted Rock - Boromir and Tree of Gondor
Can't Post
A friend painted a few Hobbit characters on rocks, and made these really cute paper weights (or whatever you want to use them for!), and I finally tried it myself. Another friend loves Boromir, so I made one that had Boromir on the front and the Tree of Gondor on the back. This is probably 4" tall. Fills the majority of your palm, when holding it. So far, I've never painted another rock! Thought it might inspire someone else out there! You can really do any character! I have Elrond on a rock, painted by my one friend! ;) I'll have to post as soon as I take some pics! Happy New Year! Elizabeth

Your friend must love it! The right kind and size rock does make a great paperweight (I've got one with a kitty painted on it, one of my kids did it years ago.) What kind of paint did you use? Did you have to put a clear finish over it?

I actually used CeramCoat acrylic paint and I did used a clear finish, as the paint was easily nicked and chipped. I used a spray Matte finish Krylon coating, which is actually for pencil drawings. I use it on any drawings I do, and I just sprayed the rock (outside)) on the front first and then the back. Used a liberal amount for the rock though. Sis actually said the rock pictures are already on our website, so here is a larger one, so that you can see it better. ;) It was super fun! I've only painted the one so far, though. I veered off onto another course, as I got a headboard that had along thin hollow space at the top, and I ended up getting a board and painting a scene from a favorite kid's book on it. I've never really painted anything seriously before, so this is just a sort of extra hobby, if you know what I mean! Too many hobbies, not enough time! -hee hee- http://www.sarahbethonline.com/middleearth/images/fullsize/paintedrockboromir.jpg
