Would someone be willing to beta-read my book? Can't Post

I have written the first draft of my second book, and have already gone through some revisions. Although I self-published the first book, I am considering submitting this one to an agent first, just to see what happens. A friend of mine has read it, but he seems overly concerned about paragraph length (does that really matter?) and doesn't have much to say on content. So I'd really like a 2nd opinion (or 3 or 4) before I submit this. It's a historical fiction (seems popular on this site) set in New Hampshire during the Salem witch trials. It is heavily inspired by another book I read as a child; admittedly maybe TOO inspired by, though I think the story goes in a different direction. It's also a small book, just under 45,000 words. Please let me know if you're interested, I'd greatly appreciate it.

may I suggest - to you and all the other writers on the board [In reply to] Can't Post

also getting someone to edit it? Yes, you'll have to pay, but it will improve your chances of getting an agent! No matter how good a writer you may be, NO ONE can edit their own work (I always have mine edited by someone else and I've been an editor for 30 years).

Not advertising for myself: I no longer do copyediting.

Do you do content editing?

The audacious proposal stirred his heart. And the stirring became a song, and it mingled with the songs of Gil-galad and Celebrian, and with those of Feanor and Fingon. The song-weaving created a larger song, and then another, until suddenly it was as if a long forgotten memory woke and for one breathtaking moment the Music of the Ainur revealed itself in all glory. He opened his lips to sing and share this song. Then he realized that the others would not understand. Not even Mithrandir given his current state of mind. So he smiled and simply said "A diversion.

I do developmental or comprehensive editing, and I also do book coaching: I will read your book and give you feedback on both general and specific stuff. Nomad has worked with me if you want to message him about his experience. See https://jodybower.com/myservices/ or PM me for more info.
