Happy birthday Annael! Can't Post

Best wishes!

******************************************
The audacious proposal stirred his heart. And the stirring became a song, and it mingled with the songs of Gil-galad and Celebrian, and with those of Feanor and Fingon. The song-weaving created a larger song, and then another, until suddenly it was as if a long forgotten memory woke and for one breathtaking moment the Music of the Ainur revealed itself in all glory. He opened his lips to sing and share this song. Then he realized that the others would not understand. Not even Mithrandir given his current state of mind. So he smiled and simply said "A diversion.”

oh, gosh! [In reply to] Can't Post

thank you all! I must say it's been one of the best birthdays ever! (Often my birthday gets lost in the Christmas craziness). Headed up to the mountains and went for a 6+ mile tromp through the Ponderosa pines as the snow fell, then into a resort lodge for a very nice late lunch & celebratory drink in the bar, enjoying the view of snow falling - one of my favorite things ever.

And some nice gifts, including a jigsaw puzzle that is a painting of a cat who is a dead ringer for my Dubh, sitting amidst stacks of books - including the works of Dickens, Shakespeare, books on Arthurian legends, fairy tales, AND vocal music - whoever painted that was IN MY BRAIN. (Well, no Austen, and no Tolkien or Le Guin, but still.)

I am a dreamer of words, of written words. I think I am reading; a word stops me. I leave the page. The syllables of the words begin to move around … The words take on other meanings as if they had the right to be young.

Many happy returns of the day, Annael! [In reply to] Can't Post

Wow, that was an awesome birthday - the walk must have been gorgeous! And to receive such a nearly incredibly perfect picture-puzzle (I suppose there wasn't the room to show everything, of course, so the artist got as much in as possible).

May the day be as the memory of Elves to you!

The the snow arrived just in time the right time to set the stage for a beautiful walk in snowy woods, and a perfect birthday for you. Glad it was so special. You deserve it! HeartHeart

"Perfect for cat lovers", and book lovers, too!

What's the pile of books on the left? At first I thought it was a set of encyclopedias, but I can't make out the print on the sides.

set of Dickens novels [In reply to] Can't Post

If I had not been talked out of majoring in English Lit in college ("You'll never get a job!" . . . so I went to social work school & was hired to help write a book before I was even finished . . . your destiny WANTS to happen!), I would have specialized in Dickens & written my master's thesis on the women of Our Mutual Friend.

That's cool! [In reply to] Can't Post

So one might say, what the Dickens is that cat doing in there? Angelic

Oh yes, the exasperating "you'll never get a job...", hubby heard that many times as a teacher from parents to their kids. If you're meant to follow a certain path, it will be set in front of you, even if you try to (or others try to make you) avoid it!

GOLLUM’S LAST SONG

All the hobbitses (all the hobbitses)
All the hobbitses (all the hobbitses)
All the hobbitses (all the hobbitses)
All the hobbitses
Now put your hands up
Up on Mount Doom, all smoke and gloom, I'm doing my own little thing
Decided to bite and now you wanna fight
'Cause I got that Ring away from you
One finger too, you miss it now
Oh yeah got your attention
My hands were burned in Barad-dur
One finger’s nothing to that
'Cause if you liked it, then you shouldn’t have put the Ring on it
If you liked it, then you shouldn’t have put the Ring on it
Don't be mad, you know how much I want it
'Cause if you liked it, then you shouldn’t have put the Ring on it
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
If you liked it, then you shouldn’t have put the Ring on it
If you liked it, then you shouldn’t have put the Ring on it
Don't be mad, you know how much I want it
If you liked it, then you shouldn’t have put the Ring on it
I got my Precious at last, my very own
Gonna get all the fisshes I want now
Gonna make all them Moria orcs turn and bow
I can’t care less what you think
I need no permission, did I mention
Don't pay that Sam any attention
'Cause you had your turn, and now you gonna learn
What it really feels like to miss meeeee ....

(voice fades out, then there's a heavy splash)

AMAZING!!! Happy Birthday! // [In reply to] Can't Post

Happiness: money matters, but less than we think and not in the way that we think. Family is important and so are friends, while envy is toxic -- and so is excessive thinking. Beaches are optional. Trust is not. Neither is gratitude. - The Geography of Bliss by Eric Weiner as summarized by Lily Fairbairn. And a bit of the Hobbit reading thrown in never hurts. - NottaSackville
