Broken Places: A Quiz (sort of) Can't Post

Hidden (in plain sight) the nonsensical, ill-written passages below contain forty-two Tolkien places.
Example: Autumn ousts summer's sun. (Utumno)
Words may cross punctuation; or may cross from an end-line to the beginning of the next line.)
Example: Old Hob bit
on
the chocolate covered walnut. (Hobbiton)
Words may be from The Hobbit, LotR, or The Silmarillion. How many of the 42 places can you find?
(Yes, ea (Eä) is banished Evil)
(Note: A "place" may be a land mass, a town/village, a waterway/lake, a mountain/range etc.)

1. Here boring you again is encoded another dang lesson of slang,
2. bordering wildly on insincere chatter, which will cause wayfarers
3. to take stock and deduce lost places.

4. Those of our gang banding together in this great search who will
5. hunt for far things and are clever, eventually many receive a high
6. passing mark.

7. To become ringworthy or a paragon do read carefully and comb
8. earnestly, as the shallow shall fail, but the regions will unfold
9. for esteemed players who avoid getting mad, ornery, and/or upset;
10. and who reach far down scouring low and high for these hidden lands.

11. So don't be misled! Or as a glad denizen of Middle-earth might say:
12. "When two odd words appear such as 'cram and eggs' or this piece
13. roams and rambles, proceed in gleaning to the end, or your time is
14. wasted." But when normal words appear get underway and be glad
15. illiteracy is absent.

THE END
Thanks for playing! Smile

Here's my first pass, anyway; I misread and thought it was one word per line. I'll try to go back and get the rest. Great quiz!

1. another dang = Therdang. Peak in the Misty Mountains.
2. bordering wildly = Ringwil. River in Gondor.
3. deduce lost = Celost. Field in Anduin valley near Lothlorien
4. of our gang = Fourgan. Hill in Dunland.
5. clever, eventually = Evereven. Elvish lake in Blue Mountains.
6. passing mark = Ingmar. Second Age fortress in the Iron Hills.
7. become ringworthy = Meringwo. River in Rohan, near Isengard.
8. will unfold = Lunfold. Eomer's ancestral estates in Rohan.
9. ornery, and/or = Yandor. Homeland of one of early tribes of Men.
10. who reach = Horeach. Ford and battle site in southern Gondor.
11. misled! Or as = Ledoras. Early settlement of Rohirrim near Mirkwood.
12. odd words = Dword. Thrain's and Thorin's retreat in the Blue Mountains.
13. proceed in gleaning = Edinglean. River in South Ithilien.
14. appear get underway = Argetund. Harbor at the western end of Gondor.
15. Illiteracy is = Acyis. The enchanted spring of Rivendell.

You missed ‘Erebor’ near the beginning of the first line. As for the names you found, “I have no memory of [those places].”

"Erebor" on line 1.

But methinks SirD has missed the point of Squire's post?

Squire was just having some jocularity with my little quiz. But I can see how some might take his "places" seriously. They DO look somewhat like possibilities.

Actually he DID get two "Tolkien places" correct but his description even for those was incorrect.

Blimey this is hard! [In reply to] Can't Post

First read-through I got:
1. Here boring - Erebor
11. Middle-earth Smile

My second and third read-throughs added:
5. for far things seems suspiciously like Four Farthings
7. paragon do read - Gondor
8. shallow shall - Hallows and the regions - Eregion
8/9. unfold for esteemed - Old Forest
11. glad denizen - Gladden

But now I feel drained and that is nowhere near 42!

No just 42 places. Not the answer to life, the universe, and everything.. [In reply to] Can't Post

I count 25 correct. Nice work dernwyn! Smile

2. wild (I don't consider this to be a "Tolkien word".)
5. Evereve ? (I don't believe this to be proper, but I could be wrong - reference?)

And now after intense consideration and thought I remembered that The Edge of the Wild is on a map of Wilderland. And being capitalized "Wild" would be considered a "Tolkien place", oh yes. You got me fair and square on that one as it wasn't on my 42 list. Blush

Soo, I believe if my counter is working correctly you have 26 answers, and I need to revise my total to 43.

Thanks a bunch for playing/searching/finding/ and er correcting ...

Yep, make that 44! [In reply to] Can't Post

Galadriel's song: "Beneath the stars of Ever-eve in Eldamar it shone..." I couldn't recall whether there was supposed to be the hyphen in there, it's not in my 2nd ed. hardcover index (I was using that to confirm my findings), but it IS in the index for my 50th anniversary edition.

I see squire found several Sil references, I would never have found those, my Sil is quite rusty in that respect! Laugh

That was a very nice puzzle. I didn't have the time to actually sit down and answer it - but I looked at it, and pondered and wondered. I found about half of the names, didn't know some, wasn't sure about some (and had no time to confirm), and some I simply missed.
