Happy 93rd birthday to Christopher Tolkien, third son and penultimate child of J.R.R. Tolkien, but lately (on the eve of the 44th anniversary of his father's death) retired as head of the Tolkien Estate and the Tolkien Trust. (He remains his father's literary executor.) The original and greatest "Tolkien expert", former RAF pilot (WWII) and Oxford professor who ended his professional career to set his father's unprecedentedly vast corpus of papers to publication: a task of which 'Herculean' falls far short of descriptive. He brought to light over 24 volumes of his father's writings posthumously: far more than any other human being could ever be able to -- including his father. This past summer (2017) he declared the publication of 'Beren and Lúthien' to be (likely) his final foray (on account of his advanced age) into his father's writings. May he nonetheless have a good many more happy birthdays.
