The press release put out by Amazon, and every subsequent piece of reporting that I have seen on the news, has stated that this series will take place in "Middle Earth" not "Middle-earth." If they can't get that small detail correct, what hope is there that they will be able to get bigger things right?

It could well be the fault of a unknowing PR agent rather than the creatives at Amazon, but I guess we'll see as more information becomes known.
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. I said in my somewhat tongue in cheek original post that "all of the reporting" following the press release has referred to the world where the series will take place as "Middle Earth". The one exception to that, of course, is Mr.Cere's excellent piece on the front page here in which he discusses the likely content of the proposed series, and of course uses the correct term.

...I'm so looking forward to the next couple years of this.
"The danger with any movie that does as well as this one does is that the amount of money it's making and the number of awards that it's got becomes almost more important than the movie itself in people's minds. I look at that as, in a sense, being very much like the Ring, and its effect on people. You know, you can kind of forget what we were doing, if you get too wrapped up in that." - Viggo Mortensen

But meat and drink for discussions, (arguments), speculation here for weeks and months (and years?) to come. All a bit academic to me right now as if it's Amazon TV I won't be seeing it. (And no, that doesn't mean I won't join in, as far as I can). But right now I am just so thankful for all the work Christopher Tolkien has given over the years to preserving his father's legacy and making it available to us. And sorry for his sake if by any chance this is a development he didn't want to see. And so very thankful that Peter Jackson had the chance to make the six films he did, when he did.
For still there are so many things that I have never seen: in every wood and every spring there is a different green. . .
