The tv production keeps fuel to the TORN fire so to speak.

Not sure what PJ's films have to do with it It's just that our Aragorn and a few others have been hoping that this series would be connected to the films. I would just as soon not complicate matters in such a way, but to each his own.

Then you could have a mega marathon. Hobbit trilogy, Tv series, LOTR trilogy... and they all fit together nicely. Sounds good to me.

I haven't seen this posted here yet, but THR is hearing that the deal is for 5 seasons, as well as the potential spinoff. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/...how-all-time-1058129

Fair enough. Never thought to consider myself a movie purist. But if the shoe fits! More specifically, a Lord of the Rings movie purist (I'm not nearly as protective of things from The Hobbit films). To be honest, I think my insistence yesterday on maintaining continuity with PJ's films was just carryover from my irritation over the previous week about Amazon potentially doing a remake of LotR. Whether they go with a fresh interpretation or not is really of no consequence for this production, and if they want to go a different direction, they should feel free to. But I still want some visual familiarity. Bring back Alan Lee and John Howe and I'll be satisfied.
"The danger with any movie that does as well as this one does is that the amount of money it's making and the number of awards that it's got becomes almost more important than the movie itself in people's minds. I look at that as, in a sense, being very much like the Ring, and its effect on people. You know, you can kind of forget what we were doing, if you get too wrapped up in that." - Viggo Mortensen

Amazon wants to try their hand at making a Tolkien adaptation. I don't have very high expectations, but I'm happy to see them try and let it stand or fall on its own merits. The stature of PJ's films is assured -- no matter what happens with the series they will remain modern classics -- but I don't find the idea of watching someone other than PJ color in the corners of what he already did terribly exciting. As far as I'm concerned, I will also reserve final judgement if/until the adaption hits our screens.
