Don't bring a sword to a gunfight.

Does running away count as a win?

Hoss and the Watcher. [In reply to] Can't Post

In a contest between someone from The Ponderosa versus someone from The Flowering Vales the outcome seems rather obvious.

As for Barney, even if he does manage to shakily load his normally unloaded pistol, his one bullet is not going to help against umpteen tentacles.

The audacious proposal stirred his heart. And the stirring became a song, and it mingled with the songs of Gil-galad and Celebrian, and with those of Feanor and Fingon. The song-weaving created a larger song, and then another, until suddenly it was as if a long forgotten memory woke and for one breathtaking moment the Music of the Ainur revealed itself in all glory. He opened his lips to sing and share this song. Then he realized that the others would not understand. Not even Mithrandir given his current state of mind. So he smiled and simply said "A diversion.”

Besides.... [In reply to] Can't Post

If you mess with one Cartwright, you mess with all of them. I doubt Forlong's bodyguard is prepared for that.

And I can't really think of a battle that Barney would win. Rincewind, maybe? The second Barney pulled out his gun, however shakily, Rincewind would be off and running in the other direction.

Roads go ever ever on
Under cloud and under star
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar.
Eyes that fire and sword have seen
And horror in the halls of stone
Look at last on meadows green
And trees and hills they long have known.

Barney... [In reply to] Can't Post

The Watcher is going to underestimate him as everyone does. In fact the Watcher will laugh himself to death over the very idea of Barney Fife attempting to take him into custody.

I still find myself singing "I Wish I Were a Fish" at odd moments.
