Dain should have killed Azog in Unexpected Journey Can't Post

You know the scene where Azog was hitting Thorin's oakenshield? If I were the director, I would have Dain charged against Azog, put a knife through him. And have Azog be the one chasing the orcs.
I don't understand why PJ needed to change the whole Azog\Bolg stuff. No wonder why the movies alienated fans.

Why bring Azog into the present at all? [In reply to] Can't Post

It seems as though Peter Jackson only brought Azog into to main story because he liked the name. Bolg could have served exactly the same function, and a son or lieutenant of the Great Goblin could have been set up to be the leader of the second army seeking revenge against the Dwarves. Jackson's version of the story could have played out almost exactly the same.

"Far, far below the deepest delvings of the Dwarves, the world is gnawed by nameless things. Even Sauron knows them not. They are older than he."

Bolg [In reply to] Can't Post

Sorry I meant Bolg, not Azog chasing the dwarves.

And here I thought you wanted Dain to kill Azog because he was responsible for the Orc's death in Tolkien's canon. Bolg was already an enemy of the Dwarves in The Hobbit because Azog was his father. Even if he felt no real affection for his sire, Bolg could use his death at the hands of a Dwarf (whether Dain or Thorin) to inflame his followers and solidify his leadership. Bolg's own lieutenant (maybe even his own son) could have stepped in after the death of the Great Goblin to take control of the goblins of the Misty Mountains and unite them with the Orcs of Gundabad against the Dwarves of Erebor. This would have paid more honor to Tolkien and the book than the direction that Jackson took in the films.
