It's a TORNiversary mathom!

Somewhere around here, 17 years ago, I joined an internet community for the first time. I remember being deeply uncertain about clicking the 'register' button because, being entirely naiive about the internet, I didn't know what access this would give the people behind the website to my computer. Little did I know that this Tolkien community would take me on the exerience of a lifetime, opening me up to travel, discussions and friendships that I would have otherwise missed out on. So in the spirit of friendship and the great traditions of the Shire, I offer you this mathom on my TORNiversary: a clip of what is possibly the funniest moment on the English TV show QI. Enjoy! And cheers to our great community of Tolkien fans!
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. Ataahua's stories

It's been a delight to share those years with you! And thanks for the mathom; that is one of my favorite things and never fails to make me laugh.
Silverlode Roads go ever ever on Under cloud and under star Yet feet that wandering have gone Turn at last to home afar. Eyes that fire and sword have seen And horror in the halls of stone Look at last on meadows green And trees and hills they long have known.

It's been a pleasure knowing you for many of those seventeen years. Sometimes I have to remind myself we've all been around this long - seems more like five years, not seventeen for you and nearly fifteen for me. Here's to many more!

Wow, 17 years is pretty fab. I reckon it deserves a celebration. Loved that QI clip, which somehow has escaped my attention.

Oh yes, it's a purely Tolkien thing to be uncertain about clicking that button! It's a dangerous business, Ataahua, logging onto TORn: you step into the website, and if you don't keep your fingers, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to! Thank you for that "oldie but goodie" - can anyone ever top Stephen Fry, even at his most embarrassed?

And here's to many more! Oh, and don't worry, we've already exploited your internet connection long ago. It's how me and all my family and friends have financed 141 vacations in Europe. They all send thanks too! :)

(my birthday). I think I first found TORn in May, or even late April, but I didn't post for some weeks (shy :)). I remember Annael from those very early days, and also Patty (who I haven't seen here for a while). I recall Eled's arrival - very soon after mine, I think.

Pretty sure Hengist was after me although probably not too long. Draupne likewise. I was late August 1999, because I was at home from uni but it wasn't long until I went back for my second year when I had an internet connection in my room for the first time (woo).

Kimi beat me to it. I think Inferno did as well.
