**Party Time** Simply Walk: A Walking-to-Mordor App (Coming Soonish) Can't Post

Hi, Everybody!

gramma thought that it might be a good idea to "unveil" the project this week during our festivities. We could call it a kind of hobbity birthday present of sorts, I suppose. :)

Eowyn's Challenge (or the "Walking to Mordor" challenge, depending on where you saw it first): I've noticed that everyone is using Excel or some other more-or-less non-techy way to record their miles. It got me thinking that it could be really cool if we had an app to track our progress. Not just a regular walking app, but an actual LotR-themed one just for us. (Without those annoying Under Armour ads that most walking apps seem to have...)

The project is very well fleshed out (pages of notes), and it's been an interesting process. Development was going slowly at first (long story) but is picking up some steam. There was interest on gramma's walking thread about the process and how it's coming along, but I didn't want to hijack her posts with updates about my project.

So, for anyone who's interested, I'm going to be starting an updates thread that has snippets about the progress being made, the not-so-simple process of figuring out how to make it so that one does simply walk into Mordor, and other geeky minutiae related to all of that walking and coding stuff (and maybe even a bit about the legal stuff as I figure that part out as well).

I'll update this when I've got the URL to the thread (probably will start it tomorrow or thereabouts). But, anyway, that's that. If geekiness and app development (or map stuff) is your thing, you may enjoy checking it out. If not, nothing to see here. Tongue

Sounds interesting! [In reply to] Can't Post

Having not been around for a while, I didn't know this was going on, but I'll definitely follow this thread.

Good luck completing this project, tinkermarm!

I'm still here
Hope is rising, waking up my soul
I'm still here
All my broken, turning beautiful
'Cause I feel my heartbeat beating
And my lungs breathe breathing
Guess my God's not done with me yet
I'm still here
All my yesterdays are gone
And the best is yet to come.

Hey, thanks! [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi, Eruvandi!

Thanks for taking a look. Since this is an announcement while we're all partying about Hobbitses and Sil stuff, I've started the actual thread here:

Not much yet, but I plan to write more when I'm not on my way out of town for work. :)

The road goes ever on and on...

*geeky hand clapping* This is going to be so cool! [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm always impressed with people who know how to dance around this stuff... but to have it for the Walk to Rivendell people is wonderful!

Hang in there... and thanks for the headsup!
