The Hobbit Caption Contest LXV Can't Post

Otaku-sempai has kindly commanded me to go forth and post. With the help of Rankin-Bass, I may have gone a little forther than usual this time.

And Rose drew him in, and set him on the harpsichord bench, and put little Wilhelm Friedemann upon his lap.

He began composing a fugue. 'Well, I'm Bach,' he said.

So, about those 'high' elves... / [In reply to] Can't Post

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

Whose fathers, Lord Elrond? [In reply to] Can't Post

In Reply To
"One hundred and forty seven score and one year ago our fathers brought forth, on this continent, a new nation..."

GANDALF: Those were not your fathers, Lord Elrond; you are not of the Dúnedain. And your math is off, old friend. The kingdoms of Gondor and Arnor were both founded in the year 3320 of the Second Age: that would be one hundred fifty-five score and two years ago. Are you certain that the Peredhil aren't subject to senility? [whispering to Bilbo] Elrond did himself found Rivendell; but that was even earlier: four thousand six hundred eighty-five years ago, in the year 1697 of the Second Age. Poor old fellow; I think he's losing it. I suspected as much as soon as I spied the beard.

Well done, sir... [In reply to] Can't Post

...My thought was taking the time of Bilbo's 'visit' (TA 2941) and comparing the defeat of Sauron to the defeat of the British.

Why Elrond was talking about anyone's fathers I can't explain...then again, why he would sport an Abe Lincoln style beard is perhaps even more perplexing.

Yes... [In reply to] Can't Post

...I saw what you were going for, but I couldn't resist. Evil The metaphor just doesn't hold up. The founding of the two Kingdoms was a result of the fall of Númenor and not at all connected to the defeat of Sauron. Likewise, the founding of Imladris is tied to the threat of Sauron and the destruction of Eregion.

I wonder if the person who created that character design for Elrond was taken with the physical description of Círdan the Shipwright, and drew on that using the justification that Tolkien never specified that Elrond didn't have a beard. Angelic The character design for the Elvenking in the Rankin/Bass Hobbit is even more puzzling.
