Just back from Oxford, England! Can't Post

Spent some days in Oxford meeting up with my sister, who was studying in a summer program at Lincoln College. Went straight from the bus to Eagle and Child for a pint. It comes in pints! We walked all over Oxford with friends, pub hopping and hiking along the Themes.

We strolled around Addison's Walk at Magdalen College, famous in Inklings lore!!

We went to Wolvercote Cemetary and saw Tolkien's grave!! I was speechless. I left a bird feather. For those of you who haven't been, there is a plot of earth ringed by stone in front of the headstone, with plants growing in it, and people leave tributes. A beautiful pink and white flower was in bloom, and hanging off a branch was the One Ring and a Lego Gandalf....funny in a way. I was excited to share the visit here with my sister and her boyfriend.

We got there by cab and got a bus back to the Bird and Baby to raise a pint. The first time we went it was packed, but this time I just had a feeling that we would get a spot in the Rabbit Room, where the Inklings gathered. I walked in with a purpose and could see straight to my spot!! To the right of the fireplace as you enter....and, some people left and we had the room to ourselves!!!

It didn't last long but we had our own meeting over pints and I savored every minute of my visit....time well spent in Oxford!!!

It must have felt like a dream! [In reply to] Can't Post

Could you almost hear their voices, as you sat in the room?

That was a nice tribute to leave! What kind of bird feather was it?

Oh I heard voices.... [In reply to] Can't Post

...and imagined them sitting next to me...reading to each other!
I don't know my English birds, it was a medium sized feather but not pigeon grey, very white like the small gulls or terns I saw (what I thought were sea birds).

*goosebumps* How wonderful! [In reply to] Can't Post

You left a feather? I really love that... and it feels so perfect. I can't imagine how surreal that whole visit... adventure... must have been :) A treasure to carry in your heart forever.
Well done! And thanks for sharing this... I'm still smiling :)

We have been there and back again.
