interview with Tolkien translator Can't Post

Friends,
I just spent a very interesting hour and a half here in Taipei talking with Joy Teng (Deng Jiawan), whose translations of Tolkien's works are now the standard in China. I'll be using some of the interview in my book (don't hold your breath waiting for that--probably a couple of years yet). But I can say, Middle Earth is in good hands. Her translation of Beren & Luthien will be coming out soon, and she says she's currently working on the letters. When I've transcribed the interview I'll share some of it here.

PS. Did you know u won the LOTR caption contest, and we're waiting for a new one from u? [In reply to] Can't Post

And thanks for the news of the interview. So much about Tolkien is how he uses languages, and we all know things get lost in translation. I can't imagine how hard it would be to convey him in Chinese, but it sounds like the right person is doing the work.
