Fili also might have cast the ruby away in disgust just as he and the other dwarves angrily throw down their weapons and armor after Thorin forbids them to join the battle (in the BTS).

I've started a fanfic, and was thinking that he might have tossed it aside when they were building the barricade, but yours actually sounds better!

Go right ahead. There's plenty more where that came from.

Dwarven Ring [In reply to] Can't Post

Not sure if mentioned ... not necessarily for Thorin, but Thrain and Thror both possessed the Dwarven Ring at one point which was supposed to make them more greedy/covetous/jealous ect and was perhaps misinterpreted as Dragon sickness.

Dwarven ring [In reply to] Can't Post

Actually, Otaku-Sempei mentioned that in another post I started here: http://newboards.theonering.net/forum/gforum/perl/gforum.cgi?post=928422;sb=post_time;so=DESC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread

It's just up on the board a bit closer to the top - I know this link isn't clickable, sorry 'bout that. Anyway, he mentioned that, which is something I didn't know and hadn't thought about. The only problem with that is, Thorin never wore the Dwarven ring. But still, it's something to think about. Thanks for the input!

The Ring of Thror does little to explain Thrain's behavior in the films, though, since he possessed it for such a short time. His madness seems entirely due to his imprisonment and the influence of the spells of Sauron.
