Weapon of Choice?

Forgive me if this poll has been done before. But because of the vast array of beautifully creative weapons in the Middle-earth movies, I'd be interested in knowing which you prefer... Multiple answers allowed, but please try to limit it to your top 3. My top 3 (in order from #1): - Sword - Bow & Arrows - Daggers

"Axes or Sword, what is your weapon of choice?" Konkers? Just kidding! Actually, I've written a fictional character who's quite good at throwing knives, and I'm pretty decent with the dart board. All the same, I chose bow & arrow even though I've no real experience with them. I bought a bow last year, just a youth starter bow (since I'm neither very big nor very strong), and I've attempted to shoot one time, LOL! Tauriel has nothing to worry about, that's for sure!

I've always wondered how fun fencing would be - I imagine I would like it very much.

Archery is much harder than it looks

I've tried it a few times, and it's a humbling experience. But I found it very fun and so satisfying when you hit your target. Keep it up!

There's such a classic and ethereal quality to archery. Thanks for your response!

What weapon do you fence with? Foil, epee, saber?

I did some sport fencing in college, mostly foil, and I've trained with many styles of swordplay since then. I've also tried daggers, axes, mace, shield, spear, polearm, madu, cloak, baton, buckler, stein, and belaying pin.

Based on my style of play when I was a wee lad, I would have to say sword--especially such dueling weapons as appeal to swashbucklers, such as broadswords, sabres and rapiers. That said, my favorite blade that I actually own is a hand-and-a-half long sword (sold as a 'Ranger Sword') gifted to me by my spouse. However, given the numerous ways we have devised to hunt and to inflict harm upon each other--even before the development of firearms--this is one poll that definitely needs an 'Other' category!

Yes, there is such a variety of swords, isn't there. Each one is associated with its own fighting style and unique history. Oops - yes, you're quite right, I totally forgot to include an "other" category. My apologies.

I got lots of practice with rapiers and broadswords, and saber can combine both those sets of skills. It's one of the flashiest swashbuckling styles of swordplay, almost as fun to watch as to do.

because it's the only one I've ever used. Besides the time I beat a guy up just with my fists when he tried to attack me. Turns out I kinda go berserk in those situations.

but clearly a mass of arrows can make the need for a sword moot.

I fell in love with the darn Elf, so Bow and arrows.... but then played D&D with lots of swords... and bows and arras collected some bows n arras, managed not to shoot self in head or horse did living history played with rattan swords, and steel ones, and foam ones... nicked horse in eyebrow, got smashed in knee missing block, survived Pennsic Passout (102 in the shade) in full armour tried fencing reeked at it give me back my broadsword collection and the Fighting Knives of Legolas topographically impaired so friends shout "sword side!" ... "shield side"... when making turns in car... I can still kick your butt if I can find a big stick...
