Seems a very unpleasant way of announcing someone's engagement.
For still there are so many things that I have never seen: in every wood and every spring there is a different green. . .

"Wanker" is a vulgar Brit term, not American. P.S. although the term is "mainstream" enough to be heard on any number of TV shows.

So I can say wank and wanker on TORn? Who knew? Here it is a word I could never say at work. I would rank it as third tier swearing. Mind you, I do get a kick out of people on TORn saying 'rooting' and 'fanny', which have quite different meanings here.

Now, I hear it on British imports all the time, but I did not expect it on a homegrown show at the time.

I suspect most Americans don't really know what it means, so they tend not to react to it as much. There are several terms like that. We're just like "So British!" instead of "So inappropriate!". In general, however, TORN prefers that terms that are considered swearing in major English-speaking countries not be used by our members.

if some people don't know what it means. Darn it, there goes my TORn swearing window. Unless NZ doesn't count as a major English speaking country.

Have long been a fan of Bakeabatch Cumbercookies. He even thinks his name is kind of funny. It does make him unusually memorable, rather like the guy who picked Englebert Humperdink... There are a number of fabulous name generators online, a hoot! http://benedictcumberbatchgenerator.tumblr.com/ (I got Brewery Cragglethatch) http://www.languageisavirus.com/...-generator/index.php (Tamperplum Sparklecrumb) https://www.buzzfeed.com/...ict-cumberbatch-name (Bendyduck Cumberpants) and there's more...

I see stuff like this on Pinterest all the time! There's some really hilarious ones out there, but this is probably one of my favorites! I really hope this is a gag, though, and not how they really announced his engagement. I would hate to have that happen to me. Seriously, though, no one even tries anymore. He's become famous for being the only actor to portray Sherlock Holmes whose actual name is weirder than his character's!
"I'm not a Psychopath, I'm a High-Functioning Sociopath, do your research." "But I don't regret, nor will I forget, all who took that road with me. Night is now falling, so ends this day. The road is now calling and I must away. Over hill, and under tree, through lands where never light has shined. I turned at last to paths that lead home."
