Cirdan versus Henry J. Kaiser Can't Post

Who's the better shipwright?

Bonus: Idril Celebrindal or Rosie the Riveter?

Círdan the Shipwright [In reply to] Can't Post

It's right there in his name. Kaiser could get ships built by the gross, but I doubt that he could design them himself.

Of a Third Age White Ship being sunk
Over 1500 Liberty Ships were sunkéd

Quantity = Henry J
Quality = Cirdan

Bonus:
Idril’s son Earendil built the ship Vingilot which sails to this very day. (Lookee up!)
Idril herself was a "tunneler” not a “shipperess”
= Nod to Rosie (Ribbet! Ribbet!)

I know of at least one instance of Círdan losing a ship and everyone aboard: The ship he dispatched to aid King Arvedui at the Ice Bay of Forochel in TA 1975 was crushed by the ice after taking on Arvedui and his men.

I could be wrong, I was once before when [In reply to] Can't Post

I thought I made a mistake…. Wink Wink

--------------------------

I’ve always assumed that the “White Ships” made by Cirdan were especially built to sail from Middle-earth to Eldamar. And any ships that simply sailed the coasts of M.E. were just “ships”.

But I know of no absolute reference to back this up…. Anyone?

You might still be technically correct. [In reply to] Can't Post

The White Ships might have specifically been the vessels built to carry Elves voyaging to Aman. But do we know that Círdan didn't re-purpose one of those ships for the attempted rescue of Arvedui?

Then again, The One Ring Roleplaying Game gives us this:

Quote
Grey Ship
Oarless ships built by the Elves to sail the open sea.
