Poll: Worst lines in LOTR movies
Aragorn: Let's hunt some Orc.
Gimli: No one tosses a dwarf / Toss me!
Gimli: I'm wasted on cross-country. Dwarves are natural sprinters. Very dangerous over short distances.
Aragorn: Legolas, what do your Elf-eyes see?
Legolas: A diversion!
Gandalf: I've sent him to his death.
Elrond: Our list of allies grows thin.
Orc: Meat's back on the menu, boys!
Frodo: Go home, Sam.

Worst lines in LOTR movies Can't Post

Bearing in mind that nothing in the LOTR scripts approaches the cringe-worthiness of George Lucas's idea of dialogue, which is the line that takes you out of the movie every time?

Nobody [In reply to] Can't Post

tosses a dwarf / toss me. For that matter, a lot of Gimli's TT/ROTK lines were a bit irritating...
I have to say I'm ok with "Our list of allies grows thin," after all, even an elf is allowed to say a few casual words now and again...

"Let him go you filth!" *thud* [In reply to] Can't Post

Though "One of you must do this." *crickets* is a close second.

With either one I have to stifle the giggles.

I must be weird... [In reply to] Can't Post

because I enjoy all of Gimli's dialogue! But that's just my weird sense of humor speaking.Evil

I guess the dialogue I find to be the most cringe-worthy is Frodo's "Gandalf." at the end of ROTK. Just doesn't sound right to me.

*crickets* [In reply to] Can't Post

...means a long awkward silence so quiet you can hear the crickets chirp, though there aren't really any crickets in the scene, but you get the idea.

If it comes to giggles, the horse that says "Hi" [In reply to] Can't Post

still makes me laugh after all these years. But that's TORn's fault.

where I giggle [In reply to] Can't Post

is the point at which Theoden is looking out at the advancing Orc army from Helm's Deep. In my mind I always say "could be worse. Could be raining" right before the first drops start to fall. But that's not the movie's fault nor TORn's, it's the fault of Young Frankenstein.

What do your elf eyes see? [In reply to] Can't Post

Legolas is basically an exposition ninja in the films so I get annoyed by lines like this, it also reminds of The Hobbits Are Going to Isenguard! To Isenguard! To Isenguard! etc...

That is brilliant [In reply to] Can't Post

I shall never watch that scene in the same way again! Cool

I have a similar thing when Lurtz gets his arm chopped off. I'm just waiting for him to say "It's just a flesh wound..."

Come to think of it, I would love a version of LOTR dubbed over with classic comedy dialogue to fit.

"Meat's back on the menu" [In reply to] Can't Post

I chose this one instead of "Go home, Sam" because at least the style of the latter doesn't take me straight out of Middle-earth.

Speaking of which... [In reply to] Can't Post

Have we ever talked about similarities between the scene with the Winkies is to the TT scene in which the Black Gate opens in front of Frodo/Sam/Gollum?

I've not seen a PJ quote saying that there was a direct influence, but I'd be interested in knowing whether the scene in Oz inspired anything in that scene, or the one in Minas Morgul.

Honestly don't have a problem with any of those lines [In reply to] Can't Post

And I also like pretty much all of Gimli's lines, except for maybe the "axe imbedded in his nervous system," though it's okay. The one character I have the biggest problem with is really that Mouth of Sauron guy, most of his lines are just stupid and he makes me think of some character in Star Wars. Definitely takes me out of the movie, though IMO Aragorn had a good solution for thatWink

A diversion... [In reply to] Can't Post

This is what I refer to as a "captain obvious" moment. In another time and place the line may have worked, but in it's present state it's unnecessary. Also, I wonder, why writers/directors feel a need to include moments like these. Do they not think their audience is smart enough to put two and two together?
