Favourite human in Tolkien's mythology... Can't Post

Who's your favourite Atani (simply 'men' might be misleading as I've added Eowyn as an option)?

Beregond [In reply to] Can't Post

A common man of Gondor who follows his conscience though he knows the consequences. Without him the line of Stewards dies out and Eowyn would not get a happy ending. Plus he's one of the few men who is actually shown to be a Father.

Decisions, decisions.... [In reply to] Can't Post

Tough one, it was either the Witch-King of Angmar or Eowyn, but in the end, I went with Eowyn. Why? Mostly because of what some of the crew said in some of the bonus features of LotR (though I'm not sure if it was the theatrical or extended versions, since it's been a while since I've seen any Middle-earth movie, LotR especially): She's breaking gender rules right and left (or something like that). She disquises herself as a man, goes off to war, goes up against the Witch-King (one reason that I would love to play this role, since who wouldn't want to go up against their favorite LotR baddie, or at least I would) and nearly gets her heart broke by Aragorn (though I'm uncertain if this happened in the book, I'm going by what happened in the movie here). I would be devastated if someone I happened to like shot me down like that, so I really felt for her in this scene (even Theoden couldn't seem to cheer her up).Smile

Aragorn will most likely get the most votes but… [In reply to] Can't Post

I confess I voted for Boromir as being more “human”.

Reminds me of Kirk speaking of a “dead” Mr. Spock in The Wrath of Khan:

Quote
“Of my friend, I can only say this: Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most . . . . human.”

Elendil [In reply to] Can't Post

Elendil was the heart of the Alliance in the Second Age (IMO) and provided the example (and descendants!) for Aragorn to even exist ...

in the book [In reply to] Can't Post

...there was just something down to earth and decent about Faramir. I think I remember Tolkien, somewhere in a bio, saying it's the character he most identified with.

Faramir was heroic, but a Really Nice Guy. Also it reeked that he didn't get the daddy love.

Probably I'd BE Eowyn and just run off with Faramir...

I gave it to Beren in the end, though it could equally have been Faramir. Or Aragorn. Or Eowyn. Or Tuor. Or Imrahil. Or.......

I never really think of this stuff in terms of absolutes, so today I'm feeling like Tuor deserves some love.

the gentle warrior.

I'm talking about the book version of course, not PJ's.

Heroic *and* Really Nice Guy. Aragorn was a little too super-human for my taste.

Yeah [In reply to] Can't Post

Book-Faramir doesn't torture a helpless pitiful hobbit and doesn't succumb to the Ring - I really didn't like movie-Faramir, and I thought he looked so cruel when he looked down at Frodo after Gollum had been captured.

On the other hand, book-Faramir was noble, kind and courageous. In my opinion one of PJ's worst character adaptations.
