Beautiful! And this is what the elephants were doing this morning at the Djuma waterhole (Photo credit to my friend who always gets all the good screen shots!) and here's a giraffe I managed to screen cap at Djuma the other day. I think this is only the 2nd time I've seen a giraffe a Djuma.

I like trying to identify mystery birds! Starting at the end and working backwards: "What on earth is this?" appears to be an African Openbill stork. The "Gentle-looking night bird" is a bit tricky from that angle, but I think it's a Dwarf Bittern. Curved Beak Bird is a Red-billed Hornbill.
Silverlode Roads go ever ever on Under cloud and under star Yet feet that wandering have gone Turn at last to home afar. Eyes that fire and sword have seen And horror in the halls of stone Look at last on meadows green And trees and hills they long have known.

I love the owl and the 'sight at dawn' in particular!

Almost makes me want to join them . . . Pensive looking giraffe. I wonder what it's thinking. I've given up on Djuma, because I never see anything (at all!) but I may try again after this.

Having watched it for a while, it is definitely the Bittern. It looked just like the one on the upper left. And I watched the "What on earth" bird for a bit too, and I'm sure it is the one from your link.

I have the video feed up all day, but it takes a while to see anything, because mostly it's during there nighttime hours. The leopard was really a shock, as was the Aardvark a few weeks ago.

is the resident hippo. He hangs out in the water for hours at a time. He looks so comfortable and happy in his own private pool

I've never managed to see him (her?), but at least now I know something to specifically look for. Thanks!

yesterday, facing off with the mobile camera at the waterhole camp. Photo credit to my friend, as usual. She said the camera won and the hippo retreated.

I thought it was photoshopped at first until I read your comment. He's so adorably pudgy. I try to ignore that thing about them being aggressive. Anyway, he met his match here.

How 'bout that hippo?! Hope you are doing well. I'm guessing school has started for you? Hope you have some great students--makes all the difference.

I'm not sure what he was finding down there in the mud at Pete's Pond, but this guy was snacking on something he liked! and, of course, the hippo, back in his private pool at Djuma on a long Friday afternoon - what a life

Wish I'd seen this. I noticed a video of them down the page a bit. It looked there like they kinda needed a day off to visit the hairdresser . . .

What happy elephants, and I love that there are so many babies and youngsters. The babies in particular seem to just love rolling in the water and mud - typical kids!
