Del Toro designs

Now that some time passed, is there any chance WB will show us his design work for the Hobbit? I would love to see what his mind and John Howe and Allan Lee's talents came up with.

There was a long interview with Guillermo del Toro in (I think) The Smithsonian. The article got into del Toro's work on The Hobbit and I seem to recall some of the designs developed for the film while he was the director being included. Actually it might have been the following interview in The New Yorker from 2011, although the on-line version is not heavily illustrated: http://www.newyorker.com/.../07/show-the-monster.

where he took the author on a tour of his man-cave? i remember reading it online; and i thought there were some images provided. But not of his Hobbit stuff, since things were still in production.

I think Alan Lee briefly talks about the Del Toro period in the documentaries. I think he referred to it as a very rewarding and productive period. I imagine there is a large volume of sketches, models, sculptures, etc.

The article does discuss del Toro's designs for Smaug, Thorin with an antlered helmet (thorns!), and armored trolls that can tuck themselves into balls. Weta completed a 6-foot tall maquette of del Toro's Smaug, but I've never seen an image of it.
