Petty-Dwarves Can't Post

Smaug does say it. As an insult to the Dwarves he can't quite destroy. In the Mountain after chatting with Bilbo. In Desolation of Smaug. I wasn't quite sure if I did hear it right when I watched it for the first time in the cinema, but now I am sure. Well, that is a Silmarillion reference, it has to be as it is in the Silmarillion where the term is used and could be taken as an insult. It has to be!

I don't recall that. [In reply to] Can't Post

I remember Smaug referring to Thorin as his companions as "those canting Dwarves" (tedious? sanctimonious?) but not 'Petty-dwarves'.

Maybe he called them petty dwarves, not petty-dwarves. [In reply to] Can't Post

Does anyone know what the script says? That would be a very fine point of difference in legal terms!

I'm quite sure, in any case. Smile

No, Smaug does not say petty-Dwarves. [In reply to] Can't Post

Here are every line Smaug says with the word Dwarves in it.

"And what about your little Dwarf friends?"
"I know the smell and taste of Dwarf. No one better!"
"That a pack of canting Dwarves would come crawling back to the mountain!"
"It's Oakenshield that filthy Dwarvish usurper."
"This is some sordid scheme hatched between these filthy Dwarves and those miserable tub-trading Lakemen."
"You will take nothing from me Dwarf."
