It has been a Hobbit age since I've been here, so this has probably been noted, but I ran across it in my wanderings and it made me come running back here http://oakden.co.uk/tea-in-the-hobbit/ Pardon if it is old news :-}

Another old Tornie actually posted this on social media last week, and I commented on it there. I forgot or neglected to bring it over to TORn, so thanks for that! It is a fun piece to read, and to think about in terms of the recipes and food. But I did have a criticism on the Tolkien angle, which I posted on the other venue last week:
Very odd article: The writer takes for granted Tolkien's statement that the origins of Bilbo's social circumstances are late Victorian England. So he never questions the contradictions of the fiction of a "Middle-earth" or "Shire" (both concepts from The Lord of the Rings, not The Hobbit, granted, but Tolkien's statement clearly includes the 'Shire' when he talks of Bilbo's larder) which has no commerce with Brazil, India, or the Southern realms to produce the Victorian imperial staples of coffee, tea, and sugar. Sure, give us the background about the menu items and how we could obtain them today; but then abandon, if you please, all reference to "Bilbo" and "the Shire", etc. And like gramma, may I say how happy I am to see you back here, hatster! I hope you will be able to stay and liven things up as you always have.

But you see, you never leave my world. I have an ancient Facebook account I opened for work and never use. Once a month at least it sends me an email asking me if I know you :-) so.... No matter how far I wander, you keep calling me back!!! Good to see you and know that "time" goes on!!

Happiness: money matters, but less than we think and not in the way that we think. Family is important and so are friends, while envy is toxic -- and so is excessive thinking. Beaches are optional. Trust is not. Neither is gratitude. - The Geography of Bliss by Eric Weiner as summarized by Lily Fairbairn. And a bit of the Hobbit reading thrown in never hurts. - NottaSackville

Glad to see the familiar faces around... Yeah I know that the Victorian choice is a bit shady, but I decided to suspend disbelief.
