Tea is at 4:00 Can't Post

At the end of the journey when, all is said and done, Bilbo gives a heartfelt farewell to his friends inviting them all to tea. For kicks and giggles, which five characters from The Hobbit trilogy would you invite to your house for tea, lunch, etc., or simply to hang out? To make things a little more interesting one has to be a villain.

Mine: Fili, Thorin, and Dwalin. The other two spots are a toss-up between Bilbo, Elrond, and Gandlaf and Gollum or Smaug for the villain.

Bilbo... [In reply to] Can't Post

Gandalf, Bofur, Tauriel and Saruman.

My hope would be snagging Saruman before he's entirely traded 'reason for madness.' I would have asked Smaug for the interesting conversation, but I don't think I could accomodate him here. Unsure

Tauriel's invited because... maybe I'd have a shot? A small, middling, probably more-fantastical-than-magic-itself shot? Plus, as a single dad, I admire a strong female so selflessly and fiercely protecting another's children in the face of danger when their father's not around.

Bofur makes the cut because he'd be the life of the party and Bilbo and Gandalf are no-brainers.

Tea [In reply to] Can't Post

Bilbo; Gandalf; Balin; Bofur; Thranduil (because I would want to grill him about his background).

Villain: The Great Goblin (to gain insights about Orc politics).

Gandalf, Thranduil, Thorin, Bard for good characters. For a villain I'd choose between Smaug and Sauron (though I wouldn't have the stomach to search for Sauron in Dol Guldur, and he surely has plans more important than coming to my place, maybe Smaug would be at least a bit more friendly? Wink)

Dori for sure... [In reply to] Can't Post

Dori could make chamomile for everyone.

Balin because he'd be a good conversationalist and very warm.

Oin, because he seems a friendly old chap and could treat any injuries if things got out of hand.

Percy, because he seems like a cool guy.

And I guess the Goblin King, since he would be entertaining and probably wouldn't be violent without his minions around.

A villian, hmmm.... [In reply to] Can't Post

Well that could be "Gold-sick" Thorin or Thranduil, who maybe is not as villainous as Azog or Bolg, but he did play the antagonist. Plus he locked the Dwarves up for no good reason. Heck, I think I'd invite them both, just to see what would happenEvilEvilEvil Now, let's see, who else? Well sorry Bombur, but I'm not sure I'd have enough for you. Ori would be okay, since he'd help clean up; same with Fili. Gotta have Dwalin, so he can glare at me and show his forearmsTongue Yep, that'd be quite a party!

This is actually more difficult than it appears.
Bilbo is an obvious choice.
Balin has the warmest personality of any character.
Gandalf would provide the most interesting conversation.
Bofur would be the life of the party.
The Master of Laketown would provide loads of both intentional and unintentional comedy.

I have always wanted to have a conversation with Saruman, as he is the most interesting character from a psychological standpoint. He would ruin a tea party, though.

Dain Ironfoot, Bilbo, Gandalf, Gollum and Smaug.
And then I'll secretly, with the help of Bilbo, invite more than five, adding: Balin, Bofur, the Great Goblin, Saruman, Elrond and Galadriel. Radagast can sit in the garden, and Alfrid in the poisoned lake.

Hmmm.... [In reply to] Can't Post

Nice question - but it's harder than it sounds...

I think I'd have to choose Fili, Kili and the Elvenking/Thranduil for sentimental reasons because they were my favourite characters from the book. Only problem with that is that Thranduil isn't as courteous as his book self and I'm not sure if he'd find this place grand enough - but there are a million questions I'd like to ask him.

Bilbo would be nice, and he understands about tea.

Then I'd really choose Gandalf but that doesn't leave me with a villain. I could cheat and say Thranduil's a villain but he never could be to me.

I'm stumped on the villain. Will have to be Smaug, I think. He certainly has the best manners, though it would be impossible to get him in the teapot.

For still there are so many things
that I have never seen:
in every wood and every spring
there is a different green. . .

so I'd mostly invite Thorin (naturally), Gandalf, Dwalin, Balin and Fili and Kili over for lunch or to hang out (though with Thorin, I can't be held responsible for what happens next).Wink

And for the villain? Anybody but Thranduil, since I don't like him anymore than Thorin does, so I'd probably invite the Goblin King (perhaps he and Thorin can have some kind of a sing off, since it's not like the Goblin King is a bad singer, he just sings badly), Gollum or Smaug (though I'd probably have to be in some kind of a cathedral or something, since my apartment isn't big enough to store a horse, let alone a dragon).

If we can count minor antagonists as "villains".

Hmm, nah, I'd go with Azog as the villain. Galadriel can keep him in line.

Well, let's see. [In reply to] Can't Post

Gandalf, Elrond, Balin, and Bilbo. There would be some tremendous tale-tellers in that group, as well as good cheer (but no food throwing). Gollum for the villain, because he and Smeagol can carry on their own conversation at the other end of the table in the meantime.

Thorin, Thranduil, and Bard are too serious and preoccupied for good tea-table conversation, and Smaug would have to dominate it and talk about himself the whole time.

Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar.

Look at last on meadows green
And trees and hills they long have known.
