Welcome to the Week in Tolkien Cosplay! Each week we'll be picking a few of our favorite Tolkien-inspired costumes. If you'd like to be considered for an upcoming post, please send in your photo and the following information to cosplay@theonering.net:
- Name (can be a nickname if you'd rather not have your secret identity revealed)
- Who you are cosplaying as
- Photographers name (if known)
- A short bio (such as: who made the costume, how long it took to make, and any other details about it you'd like to share
Name: Jim and Emily Wert Characters: Sam and Rosie Gamgee Photographer: Unknown Bio: Emily and I were in New Zealand last October, and dedicated one of our trip's bags (appropriately) for a Bag End visit and the Hobbiton movie set. Here we are as Sam and Rosie, outside their Hobbit hole, in their wedding outfits. Emily hand-crafted both ensembles. Name: Grace Character: Eowyn Photographer: Bruce Jenkins Photography Bio: Lord of the Rings was my first real geek love, and as someone who grew up on a ranch surrounded by horses and with an interest in martial arts, the character of Eowyn is incredibly close to my heart. This is my version of her shieldmaiden outfit, shot in a California Arboretum with some of my closest friends. Name: Galadhwen's Treehouse Cosplay Character: Goldberry Photographer: Self Bio: I learned how to sew because I wanted to copy costumes from The Lord of the Rings, and I've been cosplaying ever since I saw the first film. I designed and made this costume because Goldberry is one of my favourite characters, and I felt she deserved more representation! Most of it is handmade (including the waterlily), and the cloak is adapted from a vintage dress. The embroidery on the dress took the longest to make - I finished watching two seasons of Game of Thrones while making it! The background for this picture is McLean Falls in New Zealand. Name: Belikov Costumes Character: Tauriel Photographer: Steamkittnes Bio: This was a process of about nine months and consisted of blood, sweat, and tears. Basically, it's the first cosplay where I made all the sewn elements (I choose a challenge for my first project). I'm extremely proud of how it all turned out and the end result. I'm planning on improvements, but then a cosplay is never finished!
