I knew this was in the works and kept thinking, "No. I cannot do that!", but when I heard today that it was a go, I put my name down. The Roxy folks are amazing with their special events - catering, decorating (surprises in store!), and all-around niceness. The New Zealand premier of BOTFA there was a night to remember. x6! Mind blowing, I reckon. There's been at least one reservation from Australia today. You way-out-of-towners have four months to plan and save for this. We hope this lead time will give more people a chance to join the locals. Y'all come! Now.....what shall I wear?

You've been to the Roxy. You've seen the films - a few times. You've done a LOTR marathon. All you'll be missing is 9+ more hours of numb bum, right? Wish me luck - at staying awake!

And would do them all again if I could stop time for a few days! Best of luck to you--maybe take a jog down to Stone St. in between films if you need an energy boost.

From the TORN home page just this morning: http://www.theonering.net/...y-cinema-wellington/ So, get on The Roxy facebook page and the Welly-moot webpage and start writing, Tornfolk!
One of these amazing prize packages can be won via The Roxy’s own Facebook page; or, you can enter to win a package from Welly-moot: ‘… if anyone would like to attend, and turn up in style, then send an email to ‘competition@welly-moot.com’ with your best fan-story. It could be anything – the day you met one of the actors; your worst hard-luck story; what got you into Tolkien; – anything. Make it good, in less than 300 words! You’ve got until Wednesday the 16th, midnight (Wellington time). The Welly-moot committee will judge the best story, and they’ll be in touch with the winning entry!’ There is always hope!

So, more than one way to indulge in a good dose of fandom nostalgia semi-locally, then.

The marathon was phenomenal. I only caught myself snoring once (I think). See a thorough report on the Welly-moot website. Thank you, Jack ( whose crazy idea it was), et al! http://www.welly-moot.com I must admit, yes I will, that I would do it again! The Roxy folk were marvelous hosts (and cooks!), Weta added their usual artistic flare, Tolkien fans are extraordinarily well-behaved and yet fun people to be around, the special guests added their enthusiastic magic, and Frodo made it to the mountain of fire and back - again. A most satisfying day, indeed. May other fans of these films around the world find friendly local cinemas willing to accommodate a six-extended-film event so that our event here would not really have been The End of All Things.

Up up up we go on the staircase to the party room and main cinema.
Three Middle-earthy buffet meals, in-between snacks (muffins!), and endless pots of coffee to satisfy any hobbit's appetite. Thank you, Roxy! Thank you, Mojo!
A very satisfyingly full film schedule as well. Thank you, Sir Peter and company!
Warriors of Rohan and Gondor. Thank you, Weta! Jamie Selkirk's man in gold, Oscar by name, also attended.
Jed Brophy told it like it was and bravely stayed up all night with the fans. Thank you, Jed! Jens Götz, the German Gandalf, who flew over from Europe for the event, is thinking of his poem to the tune of We Are the Champions "Hymn of the Hobbits" We are the hobbits my friend and we keep on eating till the end. We are the hobbits. We are the hobbits. No time for diets Cause we are the hobbits And eat till the end. (Oh, and we did, Gandalf! We did!)
Thank you to so many people who made this wonderful event possible. Welly-moot has said it best. http://www.welly-moot.com Cheers, everyone!
