Oh yes :) [In reply to] Can't Post

I can get behind the snow leopard imagery - as underneath the ice lies fire, as that orc he and Legolas interrogated discovered. I have read somewhere the decapitation of the orc lacked honour, but that orc simply wouldn't shut up about war; the last thing Thranduil wanted to subject *his* people to ever again.

You raise another point about Thorin and Thranduil being essentially alike - I could not agree more. Both of them have had their trials and losses and both are, shall we call it, 'stubborn'? I think that Thranduil is more world weary than Thorin in many ways, but that's another discussion for another day, perhaps.

"They made was called "Enchanted Water". This is because after downing 3-4 mugs, your head feels like it floats a few feet from your body and everything sparkles pink."
I am sure I have encountered such a brew! I think in the mortal world it's marketed as 'cheap white wine' and is generally served by people throwing dinner parties who are too tightfisted with their cash to treat their guests to something which doesn't double as paint stripper.

Re: your other post: I cannot believe someone rendered Thorin in crayon and that it looks so incredible! Seriously, there is some major talent out there.

In other news, I found this today
http://ladynlmda.deviantart.com/...and-Sprite-503439917 and I absolutely love it. Angelic

I think collecting the replica weapons is wonderful and I will start a collection soon I think - for now I collect elvish style jewelry - silver twig rings and some 'spoon' rings which have an elvish feel to them. I used to make jewelry and an somewhat addicted to unusual jewelry that looks as if it's been transported from ME. Heart

Coloring [In reply to] Can't Post

In Reply To
Thanks for the thread Avandel. Smile

Since I have no artistic talent to speak of, I recent picked up some adult coloring books to help pretend that I do. I think I've just discovered the perfect subject for some new books. Wink

I saw the other day an adult colouring book called Tolkein's World. I was sorely tempted! The reviews of it on Amazon are not great, but it's not too bad at all .. If only there was one which was based on the Hobbit films! Heart

Oooh, thanks! [In reply to] Can't Post

I may check those out when I get through the ones I have. Plus, looks like they have Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Doctor Who and Star Wars ones. Fun!

Maybe someone will create a Hobbit one (hint hint to you artistic TORnfolk out there). Wink

Personally I think of "Enchanted Waters" as either cheap vodka or that last batch of sangria I made, where I went cheap with the wineEvil. But at least I added that bottle of "other stuff" - some sort of liquor so I am not sure anyone noticed.

Oooh - another jewelry artistSmile! I string necklaces and do some minor earring-making, but LOL wire has such a life of it's own. Check out this artist - she is not for everyone, but I love her organic aesthetic and have a few earrings from her - great stuff and good quality:

And I'd love United Cutlery's Thranduil sword, but it's been tabled re $$$$ for now. One day - and it's a big replica, too - 42 inches long!

Finally, some *Friday ArtSmile*

I didn't know there WERE adult coloring books...... [In reply to] Can't Post

I think Richard Armitage has been gifted with completely stunning coloring - IMO his skin tone and
eyes and the whole effect with the dark hair held it's own, visually, through all those camera filters and color retouching
that PJ seemed to do with the Hobbit films.

Tho I hafta say that I love the B&W and what I call the "sepia" artwork that I've seen.

Here are some IMO lovely studies - evidently done by an artist for the Cryptozooic trading cards. Not that I have ever actually seen
those being soldFrown, although the original "art sketch cards" are being sold for hundreds on E-bay.Shocked I think these were "practice" of sorts, maybe,
not sure what the artist was saying on the DA site.

Tho there is something to be said for colorCool, and it seems Thranduil is used in photo manipulations, quite a lot!
But here is the amazing artist "ayuri" with her incredible talent (again) and ability to paint SO realistically - this is amazingShockedShockedShocked:

Saturday Morning Swoon [In reply to] Can't Post

as it is Saturday morning where I am Heart
http://sadronniel.deviantart.com/...-vs-Thorin-525275468

Ooh! I like meeting other jewellery crafters! I've dabbled in earring making and creating Tree of Life pendants from sterling silver wire - but my fondness is for wire wrapped rings. I admit to having a slight obsession with rings Angelic I am rather fond of bracelets too ... I love the work in the link you provided, Avandel, it's got personality and presence. Yes, Thranduil's sword is more than a touch expensive at the moment. Maybe one day a bargain might cross my path. I have seen a few replica film props in the flesh - the nicest one was Gandalf's Staff which I saw for sale at Hobbiton. It is a thing of beauty. It was attracting a lot of attention from the masses which formed the huge tour groups prior to their visit to the actual film set, there was not one person in that room who would not have gladly walked away with it.

One further image for the day from me ...

*Smiles*Smile. Sounds as tho you and wirework have a better relationship than I doShocked - tho I can do some stuff - I got to be pretty good, most of the time, at making "end coils" for leather cording. For some reason making French hooks is an issue for me. And making dangles/pendants and getting the hanging loop the way I want. But, IMO there is NO SUCH THING as too many ringsTongue, and too many earringsCool. Bracelets are good too. And necklaces - but definitely, one cannot have too many rings and earrings. Laugh

You are in a great website - on the Off Topic forum too! - lots of "crafty ringers" and sword collectors and such. There is so end to the inspiration that Tolkien's Middle Earth provides. IMO some of the photo manipulators/artists are scary-good....Shocked

Hmm, I guess I favor the "watercolor" effect - like the link you providedSmile - not sure of artist terminology here, but it seems I also like some of the *seemingly* simple line art and graphic? or Art Deco/Nouveau pieces:

thranduil__the_autumn_by_annaelvalerian-d9mkvl6.jpg (http://www.deviantart.com/...The-Autumn-582121194)

Love this - so evocative for me, not sure who this artist was.Frown

thorin-oakenshield-by-v-strozzi.jpg (http://v-strozzi.deviantart.com/)

And finally an image I like, for those, possibly, that swim in the River of Denial. Because a winter in Mirkwood was mentioned, and I love this:

I just think this is wonderful. I have no idea what it is supposed to represent - perhaps a book I don't know.
IMO tho this would be a useful image for a character in a fan fic, as an irritated, hitherto unknown wild card
who decides Middle Earth is better with the Durins in it.WinkCoolAngelicEvil Who says that powerful winter woodland
mountain spirit-beings can't be Fang-gir-iells?Laugh

Mirkwood shadow picture is wonderful! Heart
Fanfiction .. I've considered it, pondered it and might try writing some, admittedly it would be more elf-centric as I am more Elvellon than Fang-gir-iell with a fondness for beards Wink But who ever coined the expression Fang-gir-iells deserves a knighthood for their services to wit! I think the spirit of dear Terry Pratchett survives in some fanfiction and it's always a joy to read the good stuff. What I think I'd write about is how Thranduil really felt about not getting his hands on his gems when he visited Erebor and his real reason for not giving Smaug a slap when he turns up on that fateful day ...

I discovered this artist today .. I am just so in awe of their talent.

LOL! I agree wholeheartedlySmile! That would be a talented TORn member Elarie, who so thoughtfully - as a superb ARCHIVIST - discovered, translated, and made available both Thorin's DiaryEvil of his trip to Erebor:

http://newboards.theonering.net/...string=diary;#751780

as well as the records of the journey of the Durins after their deaths were faked (with the help of Galadriel who "glamoured" some dead orcs to look like the Durins, so as to not
get the canonistas and more emotive type of person all upset (e.g. those folks who wear a lot of black and are into nihilism) - so of course the Fang-gir-iells a.k.a. the "Hair Freaks"
were close at hand in kayaks to lend a hand - those that were not passed out drooling, anyway.CoolLaughWink

http://newboards.theonering.net/...string=diary;#833771

I would loveTongue to persuade the noble and talented Elarie to open her archives for the records which describe another run-in with the elves and the Partei-barge on the RiverAngelic, but possibly if she should read this, she is thinking *&^%$$CoolWink LOL No good deed goes unpunished.AngelicTongueCoolEvil
