In 2015 I discovered The One Ring Boards, so that was a good point. I made new friends at school and travelled to a couple of cities near mine. Also I improved my english this year and watched a couple of new movies. I just became a star wars fan But unfortunaly this year I failed at school! , oh geez! Avarage then

two deaths of people close to me, and the loss of my kitty (we think to a coyote). Other than that there were many high points, the highest being the publication of my book after 9 years of working on it.

- I finished my PhD and became a Doctor (of science). - I got a real job, only to be seconded to the University of Cambridge months later. - My son had his first birthday. - I went to China. - And I got married. Unfortunately, not all of my friends and family had quite as good as year as me. I haven't forgotten their struggles.

It's been one of those is-the-glass-half-empty-or-half-full years...again. There is so much I have to be grateful for, but it's also been difficult. I try really hard to see the glass as half full, and usually succeed. Again, I have so much I'm thankful for. But some days I can't help noticing how much room there is in that darned glass.

2015 for me went from bad to worse on pretty much all fronts. But it turned around nicely by mid-November, so I have high hopes for 2016.

I didn't select any of those. "Strange" would have been my choice.

I had a stroke in August, and took a semester off. It was unexpected and sounds awful, but I was so lucky compared to what could have happened. I have a few residual issued but am in pretty good shape. I enjoyed my time off. I was fortunate that in 30 years I had accumulated 80 days of unused sick leave. I regret that I won't get the tens of thousands of dollars I would have gotten from that when I retire, but I remind myself that that's what sick leave is for. I'm looking forward to going back to teaching in January (though not to commuting in the snow.) Earlier in the year, it was pretty tough. A family member had a nervous breakdown and had to live with us for a while, but got proper medication and is better now. Another family member had pneumonia and the Predinsone they gave him caused hallucinations. Uncle Baggins and I found him lying on his floor incoherent. We got him care as well. Oh, and last year at Christmas, a homeless acquaintance sent me a facebook message saying he was freezing to death and could he spend the night at our house. We said yes, and he stayed for two months. We finally kicked him out after convincing his family to buy him a van to live in. He's jail now: our society's way of treating mental illness. Oh, and in the middle of all that, Uncle Baggins fell off a ladder and broke his finger. He was darned lucky it wasn't his head. So on the whole my feeling is one of gratitude that all wasn't much worse and that we're going into Christmas as well as we are.

My dad has been bed-ridden for a couple years now while Mom cared for him. Fortunately I was visiting them at home in March when Mom and fell and broke her hip. Since then, I've been back with them 99% of the time doing all the things that Mom can't do anymore. It's a totally unexpected place for me to be at this point in my life.

A strange year for you. Hopefully one you will look back on later and say "but then it was over."
He's jail now: our society's way of treating mental illness. Sad but true. I know quite a few children-of-friends who self-treat their mental illnesses (often, bipolar disease) with drugs/alcohol. Getting them the help they really need has been incredibly difficult and frustrating for their parents.
