A good explanation for why people did not use it to escape the fire. And that's in the book.

Is not the entire movie too murderous? Because there's a great battle in this movies where a lot of movie die in terrible ways... but okay. They should have keep: - Kili and Tauriel conversation at the forest - Dwarves in Dale - Smaug destroying the bridge - Beorn killing a troll - Gandalf eulogy

I hope one day we get to see some of these scenes incorporated into the films. I don't think it is impossible to happen.

There's a difference between people dying in battle and having Smaug straight up murder a bunch of unarmed civilians. It's why in Star Wars the part where Anakin (offscreen) kills a bunch of little kids is much more disturbing than all the battle deaths we actually see.

Gorgeous video you find Smaug!!! The scene of the acorn is so lovely and touchy. Beorn is incredible powerful and Smaug destroying Laketown. Illuvatar!!!! Also love the moment of Bifur taking the doll. Very sad. If this ever get to the movie, the trilogy will arise. And the mashup of Into the west and Farewell sounds great.

"Deleted" seems to be getting used here a lot, implying something that was in the movie at some point, then cut out. While some of those were intended to be in the movie and probably made it into the rough cut, most of that is just unused footage, footage shot by the documentary crew while filming was occurring, or scenes specifically created for the trailer that were never intended for the movie.

It appears many more scenes were going to be in the movie. I agree, the part when Smaug destroyed the bridge should have been in (I don't think it's too murderous), and they should have included Smaug destroying the Windlance, if it was shot. Also, it appears that the Gandalf-part of the palantir scene is shown in the Appendices - that means it wouldn't be too hard to re-insert it in DOS! If only the Smaug part of it was shot, too...

The part you see here of the Palantir is the only part you will see. So there is no reaction shot of Gandalf after the vision.

Smaug did not destroy the bridge in the book; it was thrown down to prevent the dragon from using it (but, Smaug also was not as large in the book, probably between 60 and 90 feet long).
