If you want rank them. Also which trilogy do you think had the better songs that went with movies?

My top 3 [In reply to] Can't Post

I'd have to say my top 3 in order of preference are:
  1. Into the West
  2. The Last Goodbye
  3. May It Be
Billy Boyd's singing and the dual meaning behind "The Last Goodbye" really make it a sentimental favorite but "Into the West" also has its dual meaning and I've had many more years for it to work its way into my heart. PJ and company did a fantastic job with these songs, from the writing to the selection of artists.

Oh... this is hard [In reply to] Can't Post

It's not just the song, it's the emotion each one evokes. I have to equally tie:

"May it Be/In Dreams", "The Last Goodbye", "Into the West" and "I see Fire"... although "Into the West" and "The Last Goodbye" have an advantage because of the credit pics that run with them.

Then comes "Song of the Lonely Mountain". I really love the way the dwarves sing it during the film.

I can safely say my least favourite is "Gollum's Song". I've never cared much for it.

There's a special place in my heart for "In Dreams" or the Hobbits'/Shire theme. Whatever is going on in all 6 films, when I hear that tune come into the story... I captures me. It's home.

Favorite definitely Into the West! [In reply to] Can't Post

1. Into the West
2. The Last Goodbye
3. May It Be
4. Gollum's Song

(Nothing for a looooong time)

5. I See Fire
6. Song of the Lonely Mountain

For me the first four all fit the respective movies perfectly. I get that Gollum's Song hasn't got much love from fans, but I think it's a really nice and to the point piece. Into the West and The Last Goodbye are both really effective when it comes to making me emotional. And May It Be just sounds like something directly from Middle Earth.

I See Fire is a decent enough pop song, bit MUCH too contemporary for a Middle Earth movie. It just doesn't possess the timeless quality of, say, Into the West. And Song of the Lonely Mountain ... Well, no disrespect to the authors/performers, but to me it sounds like something from an experimental 70ies movie. NOT in a good way. A major disappointment.
