It is rumored the first film was going to end after barrels out of bond and the arrival at Laketown. "There" and "Back Again" would have made sense in that context.

I truly and honestly thought I'd made peace with the 3 film split, and then I saw this on the Appendices, and my mind went racing once again with "what ifs".
I still remember when they announced the original titles. It felt so right.
*sigh* ...the road not taken...

I've always longed for the two film version, and after seeing this post and the context of that shot in DOS, that would've been a fantastic opening title shot! I'm holding out on buying the EE(promise to a family member) so I haven't been able to watch the appendices. Gah, this would've been fantastic.
